Job Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise the daily activities of the vehicle maintenance team, including assigning tasks and coordinating manpower.
  • Oversee the inspection, servicing, maintenance and repair of heavy-duty trucks, commercial vehicles and light-duty vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical faults involving diesel/petrol engines, transmissions, clutches, braking systems, suspension, steering, drivetrains and hydraulic systems.
  • Identify the root causes of vehicle breakdowns and implement appropriate repair solutions.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to reduce unexpected breakdowns and vehicle downtime.
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify potential mechanical problems before they result in major failures.
  • Inspect completed repairs and ensure vehicles are safe and fit for operation before being released back into service.
  • Ensure all mechanics follow company HSE requirements, safety procedures and proper workshop practices.
  • Manage the use of workshop tools, equipment, spare parts and maintenance materials.
  • Coordinate with the Procurement and Warehouse teams to ensure the timely availability of critical spare parts.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle inspections, repairs, servicing, breakdowns, spare parts replaced and maintenance history.
  • Monitor vehicle downtime and maintenance costs and recommend measures to improve fleet reliability and reduce maintenance expenses.
  • Investigate recurring and major vehicle faults and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training to mechanics and technicians.
  • Coordinate emergency and roadside repairs when necessary to minimize vehicle downtime.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Automotive Technology, Mechatronics or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on vehicle maintenance experience, with strong experience in heavy-duty trucks.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a supervisory, team leader or workshop leadership role is preferred.
  • Proven experience maintaining heavy trucks, commercial vehicles and fleet vehicles.
  • Experience with light-duty vehicles is an added advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, transmissions, clutches, braking systems, suspension, steering, drivetrains and hydraulic systems.
  • Strong ability to diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs.
  • Good knowledge of preventive maintenance and scheduled servicing for fleet vehicles.
  • Ability to lead, supervise and motivate a team of mechanics.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making and communication skills.
  • Good understanding of HSE and workshop safety requirements.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergency vehicle breakdowns when required.
  • Experience with heavy truck brands such as HOWO, Shacman, Volvo, MAN, Mercedes-Benz or Scania is an advantage.
  • Relevant professional or technical certification in vehicle/mechanical maintenance is an advantage.
