Job Summary

The Senior Accounts Officer oversees day-to-day financial operations, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, budget management, cost control, and compliance with financial regulations. This role collaborates closely with the Accountant to uphold financial integrity, contribute to strategic planning, and support the company’s overall objectives.

Job Description/Requirements

Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger entries.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
  • Reconcile bank statements and ensure timely processing of financial transactions.
  • Monitor cash flow and provide forecasting reports to support business operations.


Budgeting & Cost Control

  • Assist in the development of annual budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Monitor budgets and expenditures to ensure compliance with approved budgets.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and recommend financial improvements for the company.

 

 Tax & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and liaise with external auditors during tax audits.
  • Prepare and file statutory payments such as VAT, WHT, PAYE, SSNIT.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in financial regulations and ensure the company adheres to them.


Financial Analysis & Strategy

  • Conduct financial analyses to assess company performance and provide insights to management for decision-making.
  • Analyze financial data and performance indicators to recommend strategies for growth and operational efficiency.
  • Support the Accountant in the development of long-term financial strategies and business plans.


Internal Controls & Audits

  • Assist to implement and maintain strong internal controls to protect the company’s assets and prevent fraud.
  • Coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring that audit recommendations are implemented promptly.


Vendor & Client Relations

  • Manage vendor relationships, ensuring timely payments and resolving any payment discrepancies.
  • Ensure that client invoices are accurate and payments are collected in a timely manner.
  • Maintain positive relationships with external auditors, tax authorities, and financial institutions.


Key Competencies & Skills

  • Accounting Knowledge: Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and cost management.
  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in preparing and reviewing financial reports.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze financial data and make informed decisions to support business operations.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead, motivate, and manage a small accounting team.
  • Integrity & Confidentiality: Strong ethical standards and commitment to maintaining confidentiality of financial and sensitive company information.
  • Problem-Solving: Proactive in identifying issues and finding solutions.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Up-to-date with Ghana’s financial laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Technological Proficiency: Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, or SAP), Microsoft Excel, and financial modeling.
  • Organizational & Time Management Skills: Strong ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines in a structured manner.
  • Ability to Work Independently: Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation, capable of working with minimal supervision while delivering high-quality results.

 


Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting certification (e.g., ACCA, ICA Ghana) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting
