Chief Risk Officer

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement the company's risk management strategy, policies, frameworks, and procedures.
  
• Identify, assess, monitor, and report on credit, operational, liquidity, fraud, market, and reputational risks.
  
• Establish appropriate risk appetite, limits, indicators, and escalation procedures in collaboration with management and the Board.
  
• Monitor the quality of the loan portfolio, including portfolio-at-risk (PAR), non-performing loans, defaults, and recovery performance.
  
• Review credit policies, lending criteria, underwriting processes, and loan approval controls.
  
• Conduct regular risk assessments and recommend measures to minimize potential losses.
  
• Ensure risk management practices comply with applicable Bank of Ghana requirements and other relevant laws and regulations.
  
• Develop early-warning systems to identify deteriorating loan performance and emerging financial or operational threats.
  
• Work with Credit, Finance, Internal Audit, and Compliance teams to strengthen internal controls and risk oversight.
• Investigate significant risk incidents, suspected fraud, and control weaknesses, and recommend corrective action.
• Prepare risk reports for senior management and the Board, highlighting exposures, trends, and mitigation strategies.
• Promote a strong risk-aware culture throughout the organization.
• Lead and develop the risk management team.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Banking, Business Administration, or a related field.
• A master's degree or professional certification in risk management, finance, accounting, or a related discipline is an advantage.
• At least 3–5 years of relevant experience in risk management, credit risk, banking, or financial services, including leadership experience.
• Demonstrated understanding of microfinance lending, credit assessment, loan portfolio monitoring, and recovery processes.
• Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, internal controls, and applicable financial-sector regulations.
  
• Experience developing risk policies, monitoring risk indicators, and presenting reports to senior management or a Board.
  
• Strong analytical, strategic thinking, leadership, and decision-making skills.
• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and the ability to challenge decisions professionally.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

• Reduction in portfolio-at-risk and loan default rates.
• Effectiveness of risk mitigation measures.
• Compliance with regulatory requirements and internal risk policies.
• Timeliness and accuracy of risk reporting.
• Reduction in fraud incidents and control weaknesses.
