We are seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician provide technical laboratory support by testing, analysing, and ensuring concrete admixtures meets required standards and specifications. The Laboratory Technician will provide technical expertise in optimizing concrete mix designs and troubleshooting field-related issues, supporting clients in their pursuit of cost-effective admixture solutions.


Role responsibilities:


Safety


  • Ensure that LOTO (lockout/tagout) procedures are always adhered to.
  • Ensure that all disposals are done in line with Weber’s policies.
  • Ensure that team members have always correct Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure work areas including equipment in use are safe, and all EHS programs are always adhered to.
  • Report and investigate any accident and incident.
  • Participate in & support the Environmental management programs on site.
  • Adhere to all safety procedures in the Lab & Plant.
  • Ensure that good housekeeping standards are always maintained in the lab.
  • Complete at least 1 SMAT per month.


Quality


  • Evaluating the effects of different admixtures on concrete properties and optimizing mixtures for specific client’s applications.
  • Conducting physical and chemical tests on concrete and its components (cement, aggregates, admixtures, water) to assess properties like strength, workability, consistency, and durability.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of laboratory results and procedures.
  • Maintaining and calibrating laboratory equipment used for concrete testing and participating in monthly maintenance checks with the engineering team.
  • Ensuring that concrete products meet quality standards and project requirements.
  • Assist in reducing variance cost through equipment reliability improvements and participate in Saint-Gobain’s Loss Reduction Model.
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the plant in order to perform all job tasks in the Laboratory.
  • Ensure testing of all finished products, raw materials, and packaging materials to ensure compliance to specification.
  • Record, verify and report on QC/QA performance on daily basis to line manager.
  • Collaborating with other team members to ensure efficient and effective laboratory operations.
  • Report all non-conformances to the line manager.
  • Ensure calibration and proper maintenance of instruments as per schedule.
  • Assist with plant trials where possible by analyzing results as and when required.


Delivery


  • Engaging in all trainings of laboratory team members (including chemical handling)
  • Ensure a clean and organized work environment in line with 5S.
  • Assist with the investigation of customer complaints to ensure proper closure and non-reoccurrence of findings.
  • Assisting with the facilitation or execution of WCM processes.
  • Explore and identify sustainable raw materials solution.
  • BOM optimization to reduce cost
  • Any reasonable tasks given from time to time by the Line manager.
  • All such duties and/or activities assigned by management/board as and when required.


Minimum requirements:


  • Diploma / Degree in chemistry, material engineering, chemical engineering or any related engineering program
  • Experience in a concrete lab is preferable
  • Quality management qualification will be an added advantage
  • 2-3 years’ laboratory and QA/QC experience
  • Strong background in laboratory procedures, techniques, equipment and excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to lead and manage a team (setting of KPI’s, people management)
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Mathematical / data consolidation skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Computer Skills (MS-Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Knowledge and understanding of Quality Standards
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge in chemical construction business is an added advantage
