Job Summary

The Executive Secretary is the overall Technical and Administrative Head of the Secretariat of the GH SRHR Alliance for Young People (GH Alliance). He/She shall provide leadership in identifying priorities and objectives, directing staff, supporting committees, and ensuring the Alliance’s financial and organizational viability, in collaboration the National Governing Board (NGB). The Executive Secretary shall be responsible for the day-to-day management and operations of the Secretariat.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Lead Young people’s Reproductive Health and Rights advocacy efforts at the National level.
  • Manage and ensure independent functioning of the Alliance Secretariat
  • Lead and drive the achievement of the strategic objectives of the Alliance and oversee all the operations.
  • Institute and implement medium and long-term strategic plans to achieve the vision and mission of the Alliance.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with in-country, regional and international networks and organizations that share a common vision with the Alliance
  • Lead in programme planning, implementation, coordination and monitoring to achieve specific and overall programme results and provide guidance to the technical team.
  • Responsible for resource planning, mobilization, application and accountability.
  • Responsible for networking and public relations and donor management.
  • Ensure timely preparation and submission of Alliance/ projects budgets and reports.

Relevant Skills and Abilities:

  • Previous experience working as a national coordinator or senior level management of a non-profit organization.
  • Knowledge of project management, PMEL with a sound knowledge of institutional capacity strengthening and visibility actions.
  • Good policy influencing skills and proven ability of establishing and maintaining professional and interpersonal relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office and other working tools.
  • Excellent leadership qualities, strategic thinking, including organizational, team-building, and representational skills
  • Ability to analyze system and program challenges and a track record of developing technical and adaptive solutions to organizational challenges
  • Ability to multitask and meet short deadlines
  • Good written and oral communication skills and demonstrated knowledge of effective coordination
  • Must be an excellent facilitator, networker and team player
  • Ability to travel across Ghana.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Master’s degree in social sciences, Health Sciences, Development studies or project management.
  • At least (5) years practical field experience in development work with at least 3 years of which should be in a similar position or a senior management position. 
  • Must have a working knowledge of the Ghanaian political system and key institutions responsible for vulnerable groups and social justice institutions. 
  • A sound working knowledge of young people with demonstrated experience of working with young people in the area of reproductive health.
  • Strong knowledge of the Rights of Children and Safeguarding issues. 
  • Knowledge of INGOs, NGOs and CBOs that share common values and objectives with the Alliance.
