Cooks and Chefs - Chinese Cuisine

The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking a wide variety of Chinese dishes and developing new menu items that showcase their creativity and expertise in Chinese cuisine.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook a variety of Chinese dishes, including but not limited to stir-fries, dumplings, soups, rice varieties, and noodle dishes.
• Develop new and exciting menu items that showcase traditional Chinese ingredients and flavours.
• Ensure that all dishes are prepared to the highest standard and presented attractively.
• Train and supervise kitchen staff in the preparation of Chinese dishes, including proper cooking techniques and food safety practices.
• Manage and maintain inventory of Chinese ingredients and supplies, ensuring that stock levels are always maintained.
• Collaborate with the restaurant management team to create seasonal and special menus that showcase Chinese cuisine.
• Ensure that the kitchen is kept clean and organised at all times, and that all health and safety regulations are followed.
• Ensure that food costs are controlled, and that waste is minimised by managing portion sizes and keeping track of inventory.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Chinese Chef or cook, with a minimum of 2 years of experience.
• In-depth knowledge of Chinese cuisine, ingredients, and cooking methods.
• Ability to develop new and creative menu items that showcase Chinese flavours and ingredients.
• Strong teamwork and leadership skills, with the ability to train and supervise kitchen staff.
• Passion for food and creativity in developing new dishes.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
• Physical ability to stand for long periods and multitask.
• Possess municipal health and food handling certificate.
