Role Summary: The University Counsellor is a professional staff member responsible for providing comprehensive counselling, guidance, and support to students across the liberal arts disciplines. The primary focus of this role is to bridge the liberal arts education with practical career outcomes, helping students translate their academic experience into meaningful employment, further study, or entrepreneurial pursuits. The Counsellor will provide individual and group mental health support while leading and implementing robust career development programming.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one advising on career exploration, goal setting, professional skill development, and job search strategies tailored to liberal arts graduates.
- Collaborate with Career Services to build and maintain relationships with potential employers, alumni, and industry partners to source internship and full-time job opportunities.
- Provide confidential, short-term individual counselling and psychological support to students dealing with personal, emotional, or social challenges (e.g., stress, anxiety, academic pressure, adjustment issues).
- Respond appropriately to student crises and emergencies, providing initial assessment, de-escalation, and referral to external or higher-level resources when necessary.
- Develop and facilitate therapeutic and psycho-educational groups focused on common student issues (e.g., stress management, time management, interpersonal skills).
- Maintain a strong network of external mental health, medical, and social service providers for appropriate student referrals when needed.
- Help students understand and articulate the transferable skills gained from their liberal arts studies (critical thinking, communication, problem-solving) to employers and graduate schools.
- Develop and execute outreach programs to promote counselling and career services to the entire student body and faculty.

Qualification
- A Master’s degree in Counseling, Career Development, Psychology, Higher Education Administration, or a closely related field.
- Certification/Licensure: Possession of a relevant professional counselling license or certification (e.g., Licensed Professional Counsellor, School Counselor, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
Workload
- Full-time
- Traveling, locally and internationally, may be required.
- Will be required to work on some weekends
