Key Responsibilities
- Formulate and drive the successful implementation of corporate policies in alignment with the company’s strategic positioning within the reinsurance market in Ghana.
- Provide strategic leadership to ensure sustainable profitability, growth, and operational excellence.
- Develop and execute strategic and operational plans that reflect the long-term objectives and priorities set by the Board.
- Establish and maintain robust operational, risk management, and financial control systems to support sound decision-making.
- Ensure that corporate objectives, performance standards, and strategic priorities are clearly communicated, understood, and embraced across all levels of the organization.
- Monitor financial and operational performance against approved plans and budgets, and provide timely, data-driven insights.
- Take proactive remedial actions where necessary and keep the Board informed of significant developments, risks, and opportunities.
- Continuously enhance the company’s operational efficiency, underwriting performance, and overall competitiveness.
- Assume full accountability to the Board for the overall performance and stewardship of the company.
- Represent the company at the highest level with key stakeholders, including clients, brokers, industry bodies, and professional associations.
- Build, lead, and sustain a high-performing executive management team capable of delivering on the company’s strategic agenda.
- Implement Board-approved strategies and ensure effective translation into measurable business outcomes.
- Ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements and directives, including those of the National Insurance Commission, as well as adherence to industry best practices.
- Provide comprehensive and timely management reports to the Board to support governance and oversight.
- Oversee the preparation and timely audit of financial statements in line with statutory and regulatory requirements.
- Foster a high-performance culture by motivating and empowering staff to achieve corporate objectives.
Key Competencies
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at Board, regulatory, and stakeholder levels.
- Strong proficiency in business and data tools, including Microsoft Office Suite, to support strategic decision-making and reporting.
- Advanced presentation, facilitation, consultation, negotiation, and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Proven ability to identify, assess, and respond to organizational needs in alignment with corporate objectives.
- High level of attention to detail, balanced with the ability to maintain a broad, strategic perspective without losing momentum.
Qualification
- The ideal candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science or a related field or an MBA or a second degree (added advantage).
- A minimum of 15 years’ relevant experience in the insurance industry, including at least 8 years in a supervisory role.
- Membership in a recognized professional body.
- Demonstrated people management experience, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience in continuous improvement programmes and integrated management systems.
- Qualification as a Principal Officer in accordance with NIC regulations.
