Job summary
The Senior Legal Counsel will play a key operational role which provides legal advisory to international clients in legal aspects, including but not limited to : legal advisory, compliance advisory, legal risks analysis, due diligence investigation, legal documents drafting advisory, compliance support, also other local legal support. The Senior Legal Counsel will work with colleagues from other jurisdictions and leading Ghana team, also collaborating with local partnership law firms.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal advisory support to the firm and its clients on corporate, commercial, and regulatory matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, agreements, letters, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research and provide clear, practical legal opinions and recommendations.
- Advise clients on regulatory requirements, compliance, and legal risks.
- Support due diligence and legal reviews for business transactions and engagements.
- Assist with dispute resolution, litigation matters, and coordination with external counsel where required.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and advise clients on their potential impact.
- Support client meetings, presentations, and consulting engagements involving legal matters.
- Maintain accurate records of legal documents, client matters, and ongoing engagements.
- Ensure confidentiality and professional standards are maintained in all client engagements.
- Interface with regulators, law enforcement agencies, government authorities, and other external stakeholders on behalf of the international clients.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on contracts, agreements, legal notices, and other corporate documents.
- Monitor changes in relevant laws and regulations and advise management on their potential impact on the business.
- Ensure that business activities and transactions comply with applicable laws, regulations, and internal legal policies.
- Support the development and implementation of effective legal and compliance frameworks.
- Manage workflow, priorities, and case portfolio.
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior lawyers and other members of the legal team.
- Manage legal crises and urgent matters effectively while protecting the company’s interests.
- Maintain accurate records of legal matters, contracts, disputes, and regulatory engagements.
Qualifications & Experience
- An LLB and BL are required, together with admission to the Ghana Bar and a current, valid practising licence.
- Successful completion of the Legal Practice Course (LPC) in the United Kingdom are additional advantages.
- Substantive overseas study experience involving physical attendance at an overseas institution is an additional advantage.
- A UK LLB or LLM and completion of Ghana’s Post-Call Law Course are additional advantages but do not replace the LPC requirement.
- An LLB with a minimum of Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1), or equivalent, is required. Where an LLM is held, a Merit, Distinction or equivalent classification is preferred.
- At least three years of post-call experience in legal practice or an in-house counsel role.
- Candidates must demonstrate strong practical legal skills and relevant experience, together with the potential for further professional development and leadership.
- Relevant experience in corporate and commercial law, legal advisory services, due diligence and regulatory compliance. Litigation or arbitration experience would be an advantage.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex legal transactions and manage multiple client matters independently.
- Strong skills in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts and preparing clear, practical legal advice in English.
- Experience coordinating with external legal counsel and managing litigation or other dispute resolution matters.
- Ability to work with international clients and colleagues across jurisdictions, supervise junior lawyers and support the development of the Ghana team.
- Strong professional judgment, responsiveness, attention to detail and accountability for deadlines and work quality.
- Admission as a Solicitor of England and Wales, or additional qualifications in corporate governance, arbitration or related fields, would be an advantage.
