CALL FOR PROGRAM INTERN

Sixth African Region Initiative (SARI) is a Pan-African tourism organization  uses partnerships, strategic collaborations between Africa and the diaspora to promote African tourism, investments and cultural heritage preservation. We empower young professionals, students and upcoming stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality ecosystem to access knowledge spaces, skill exchange, visibility and opportunities. We promote sustainable and luxury tourism while advocating ecotourism, wellness tourism and responsible travel. We orchestrate high impact tourism and hospitality related conferences and events that showcase Africa’s potential, attract investors and foster global partnerships. (Learn more about us on our website; https://www.sixthafricanregioninitiatives.com/).

As part of our social impact and mandate, SARI is implementing The Africa Tourism Renaissance Conference. The Africa Tourism Renaissance Conference is an impact driven two day event which will showcase panel discussions, masterclasses, compelling speeches and conversations on tourism on the African continent, its intersectional offsets in other industries. The conference will highlight local, regional policy dialogues on tourism, new frontiers in climate and sustainable tourism.

To smoothly implement our first conference, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Program Support Intern to join our dynamic team for the implementation of a conference-related project. The intern will work closely with the Program Lead and collaborate with the broader program team to support the smooth execution of various project activities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in program management, event coordination, and project implementation. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Program Lead with the planning and coordination of conference-related activities.
  • Support project implementation processes, ensuring tasks are completed on time and to standard.
  • Help manage logistics, including scheduling meetings, coordinating with vendors, and supporting event-related tasks.
  • Track and update project progress, ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Communicate effectively with internal team members and external partners.
  • Prepare and organize project documentation, including reports, presentations, and event materials.
  • Attend team meetings, providing updates on tasks and offering support as needed.
  • Assist with social media management, marketing, and communications as related to the conference.
  • Any other tasks that may arise in support of the project and program activities.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in [relevant field, e.g., Event Management, Business Administration, Communications, etc.].
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Individual is willing and adaptable to learning new tech. tools and working in a fast paced international team. 
  • Experience with social media platforms and basic event management tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in event coordination, program management, or related fields.
  • Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Trello, Slack etc.).
  • A passion for tourism related issues e.g., sustainability, technology, education, heritage, culture etc.
