The Workshop Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to- day operations of the workshop, ensuring efficient production processes, and managing a team of skilled workers to meet quality standards and production deadlines. This role requires strong leadership, excellent organizational skills, and a deep understanding of furniture manufacturing processes.

Job Description:


Team Leadership:

  • Manage and supervise a team of workshop staff, including carpenters, sprayers, upholsterers, welders and the finishing / delivery team.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members to enhance skills and improve productivity.
  • Assign daily tasks, monitor work progress, and ensure adherence to schedules.


Production Planning & Scheduling:

  • Develop and maintain production schedules to meet deadlines and customer requirements.
  • Monitor workflow and adjust schedules as needed to handle production changes or delays.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and materials to minimize waste.


Quality Control:

  • Ensure that all furniture produced meets quality standards and specifications.
  • Conduct regular inspections of finished products, addressing any defects or issues promptly.
  • Work closely with the team to implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.


Health and Safety:

  • Ensure a safe and clean working environment by enforcing health and safety standards in the workshop.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Address and resolve safety concerns in a timely manner.


Maintenance and Equipment Management:

  • Oversee the maintenance and repair of workshop machinery and equipment.
  • Schedule and ensure regular maintenance to avoid unexpected breakdowns.
  • Maintain an inventory of tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition.


Material and Inventory Management:

  • Work with the purchasing department to ensure timely procurement of raw materials and supplies.
  • Monitor stock levels to avoid shortages or excess inventory.
  • Manage storage and organization of materials in the workshop to maximize efficiency.


Process Improvement:

  • Analyze production processes and identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency and cost reduction.
  • Implement lean manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, tools, and technologies to optimize production processes.


Reporting and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate production records, including time logs, material usage, and workforce performance.
  • Report regularly to senior management on production progress, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare reports for performance reviews and operational assessments.
  • A degree or certification in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field(preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years in a manufacturing environment with at least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role.
  • Strong knowledge of production processes.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of machinery, tools, and equipment used in furniture manufacturing.
  • Problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing software (e.g., ERP systems).
  • Strong leadership and people management skills.


Working Conditions:

  • Full-time position, with typical working hours of [8 am to 5pm, Lunch break from 12pm to 1 pm, Monday to Friday].
  • Will require occasional weekend work (Saturday and exceptionally Sunday) depending on workload.
