The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations to ensure efficiency, compliance, and excellent customer service. The role ensures that the organization’s operational strategies, systems, and processes are effectively implemented to achieve financial sustainability, growth, and regulatory compliance.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Operations Management

  • Supervise and coordinate all operational activities across branches and departments (loans, savings, customer service, and back-office functions).
  • Ensure smooth running of daily banking operations, including deposits, withdrawals, loan disbursements, and repayments.
  • Monitor and improve operational workflows to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.
  • Oversee cash management and ensure adequate liquidity levels in all branches.

Policy Implementation and Compliance

  •  Implement and enforce operational policies, procedures, and internal controls in line with regulatory requirements (e.g., Bank of Ghana, Microfinance Regulations).
  • Ensure compliance with AML/CFT, KYC, data protection, and other relevant laws.
  • Conduct periodic operational audits and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential operational risks.

Branch Supervision and Support

  • Provide leadership, training, and guidance to branch managers and operational staff.
  • Monitor branch performance metrics (loan portfolio quality, deposit growth, transaction turnaround times, etc.).
  • Support branch expansion plans, site selection, and resource allocation.

Process Improvement and Technology

  •  Work with IT and other departments to improve operational systems and automate processes.
  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of the core banking system and digital channels.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend technology-driven solutions.

Financial and Performance Reporting

  • Prepare regular operational performance reports for management and the board.
  • Monitor key operational KPIs (PAR ratios, customer satisfaction, efficiency ratios, etc.).
  • Support budgeting and cost management initiatives to optimize operational expenses.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Train, and mentor operations staff to maintain a high-performing team.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, efficiency, and customer focus.
  • Lead by example in upholding the organization’s values and ethical standards.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Banking, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations within a financial institution, preferably a microfinance or savings and loans company.
  • Strong knowledge of microfinance operations, credit management, savings mobilization, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proven leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in core banking systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
