The Skilled Pipe Fitter will be responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of piping systems used in mining operations, including slurry lines, water supply systems, compressed air lines, and process plant piping. The role requires strict adherence to safety standards, technical drawings, and operational procedures within a heavy industrial mining environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Install, assemble, align, and maintain piping systems (carbon steel, stainless steel, HDPE, PVC, and rubber-lined pipes).
- Read and interpret isometric drawings, P&IDs, and mechanical schematics.
- Measure, cut, thread, bend, and fit pipes using hand and power tools.
- Perform flange alignments, gasket installations, and bolting/torqueing to specification.
- Conduct pressure testing, leak testing, and inspections of pipe systems.
- Carry out maintenance and repairs on slurry pipelines, water reticulation, fuel lines, and compressed air systems.
- Collaborate with welders, boilermakers, and mechanical teams during shutdowns and installations.
- Identify faults, report defects, and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with mine safety rules, permit-to-work systems, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and on-the-job training.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Technical Certificate or Trade Qualification in Pipe Fitting, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years proven experience as a Pipe Fitter in mining, heavy industry, oil & gas, or process plants.
- Strong knowledge of industrial piping systems and fittings.
- Experience working on slurry pipelines is a strong advantage.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision in a demanding site environment.
SKILLS
- Proficient in pipe installation techniques and mechanical fitting.
- Strong understanding of safety standards and industrial best practices.
- Ability to read technical drawings accurately.
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Physically fit and capable of working long hours in harsh site conditions.
- Team player with good communication skills.
