Job summary

The Field Operations Officer will be responsible for growing and coordinating Clean Team Ghana’s rubbish collection and biodigester waste disposal services. The role requires a practical field person who can ride a motorbike, engage with customers, identify business opportunities, coordinate service delivery, and provide basic reports and analyses of business performance. The officer will work directly with households, restaurants, hospitals, institutions, landlords, artisans, and rubbish collectors to ensure that customers are signed up, services are delivered on time, and operational issues are properly followed up on. The ideal candidate should be able to read and write, communicate effectively with customers, maintain accurate records, prepare simple reports, and have some basic knowledge of building construction or sanitation systems, particularly regarding biodigester toilets.

Key Responsibilites:

Rubbish Collection Business Development and Coordination

The officer will be responsible for identifying, signing on, and supporting customers for Clean Team Ghana’s rubbish collection service.

  • Move around target communities, households, restaurants, hospitals, schools, offices, shops, and institutions to introduce Clean Team Ghana’s rubbish collection service.
  • Speak to potential customers and explain the service, pricing, collection schedule, and benefits.
  • Sign up new customers for regular rubbish collection.
  • Keep records of customers, including their name, location, contact details, customer type, agreed-upon service package, and payment status.
  • Coordinate with rubbish collectors to ensure customers are served according to the agreed schedule.
  • Follow up with customers to confirm whether rubbish has been collected.
  • Receive and report customer complaints or service delays.
  • Identify new areas where rubbish collection services can be expanded.
  • Track the number of new customers signed on each week or month.
  • Prepare simple reports on customer growth, complaints, payments, and service challenges.
  • Support basic analysis of which areas, customer types, or service packages are performing well.


Biodigester Waste Dislodging Service Coordination

The officer will be responsible for coordinating customer requests for biodigester toilet dislodging and assigning the work to approved artisans or service providers.

  • Receive customer requests for biodigester toilet dislodging.
  • Visit or assess customer locations when needed to understand the type of biodigester system, access point, and service requirement.
  • Use basic building construction knowledge to understand toilet/biodigester location, pipe access, chambers, septic/biodigester layout, and possible service challenges.
  • Assign dislodging jobs to the appropriate artisan or service provider.
  • Agree on the service date and time with the customer and artisan.
  • Follow up to ensure the artisan reports to the site and completes the job.
  • Check that the work is completed properly and that the customer is satisfied.
  • Record all biodigester dislodging jobs, including customer details, location, artisan assigned, date completed, amount charged, and any issues reported.
  • Report recurring technical problems with biodigester toilets to management.
  • Identify opportunities to provide regular servicing plans for households, landlords, restaurants, hospitals, and institutions.
  • Prepare simple weekly or monthly reports on the number of dislodging requests, completed jobs, pending jobs, customer complaints, and revenue opportunities.


Business Development Responsibilities

Across both rubbish collection and biodigester dislodging services, the officer will be expected to:

  •  Actively look for new customers and business opportunities.
  • Build relationships with households, landlords, restaurants, hospitals, institutions, and community leaders.
  • Educate customers on the benefits of proper waste management and regular biodigester servicing.
  • Collect basic market information, including customer needs, competitor prices, service gaps, and new service areas.
  • Recommend practical ways to increase customers and improve service delivery.
  • Support customer retention by maintaining regular contact with existing customers.


Reporting and Basic Analysis

The officer must be able to read, write, and prepare simple reports. He will be expected to:

  • Keep accurate daily and weekly records.
  • Prepare simple reports on customers signed, jobs completed, payments, complaints, and operational challenges.
  • Track service performance for rubbish collection and biodigester dislodging.
  • Identify patterns, such as areas with high demand, frequent complaints, unpaid customers, or service delivery delays.
  • Share practical recommendations with management based on field observations.


Required Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Ability to ride a motorbike confidently and safely.
  • Ability to read and write clearly.
  • Basic reporting and record-keeping skills.
  • Basic ability to use a mobile phone, WhatsApp, Excel, Google Sheets, or simple reporting templates.
  • Some knowledge of building construction, plumbing, toilet systems, septic tanks, or biodigesters.
  • Experience in field sales, customer engagement, sanitation services, construction, plumbing, waste management, or community mobilization.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to talk confidently to households, restaurants, hospitals, landlords, and institutions.
  • Ability to supervise artisans and rubbish collectors.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in the field.
  • Honesty, discipline, and a good customer service attitude.


Minimum Qualification

  • Technical/vocational qualification, HND, or a Bachelor's in a relevant field.
  • A background in construction, plumbing, sanitation, waste management, sales, or field operations will be an advantage.

  • Number of new rubbish collection customers signed on.
  • Number of biodigester dislodging jobs secured and completed.
  • Number of active customers retained.
  • Timeliness of service delivery.
  • Quality of reporting and record keeping.
  • Customer satisfaction and complaint resolution.
  • Revenue generated from rubbish collection and dislodging services.
  • Number of new areas or customer groups identified for business growth.
  • Reliability of artisans and rubbish collectors assigned to jobs.
