Job summary
The Credit Analyst manage the origination of credit proposals on behalf of Relationship Officers. The Credit Analyst role will include supporting in account and portfolio management as required.

Responsibilities
- Identify credit and risk management requirements at the source of the deal or business proposal
- Conduct credit evaluation interviews (for businesses) or assessments (for retail clients) to obtain sufficient information for evaluating financial and business risk
- Prepare credit applications with sound financial and business justification within acceptable risk parameters
- Evaluate whether proposals meet sound business/personal criteria and ensure counter-party credit risk falls within acceptable limits
- Recommend appropriate credit facilities, including terms and conditions, based on risk evaluation
- Monitor, identify, and mitigate risks inherent in business and retail credit portfolios
- Work in partnership with Relationship Officers to identify alternatives that could bring non-viable deals/proposals within acceptable risk parameters
- Present and defend own credit judgment and evaluations to clients without negatively affecting relationships
- Gain a thorough understanding of economic, business, regulatory, and legal environments affecting clients
- Identify, quantify, and evaluate sources of risk in relation to profitability, business viability, or retail portfolio quality
- Utilize industry and market risk analysis to understand contextual threats to clients
- Build and maintain cooperative relationships with internal stakeholders across the credit value chain to improve proposal quality and turnaround times
- Share joint credit responsibility for the assigned portfolioUnderstand facility terms, covenants, and conditions to manage risk throughout the life of the credit
- Continuously monitor schemes and portfolios to ensure growth, quality, and compliance with risk policies
Skills and Requirements
- Strong financial analysis skills to assess financial strengths, weaknesses, and potential risks for clients
- Deep understanding of credit products and risk mechanisms, including profitability drivers and credit risks
- Knowledge of financial markets and the factors that influence market values and risk exposures
- Ability to use available information sources and technology to make informed credit decisions
- Thorough conceptual and practical knowledge of credit procedures, policies, and standards, including handling credit applications, bad debts, disputes, and legal processes
- Balanced approach towards risk/reward with effective risk mitigation strategies
- Critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills to liaise with clients and internal teams
- Diligent, detail-oriented, and thorough in approach to work
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Understanding of the economic, business, regulatory, and legal environments relevant to both business and retail portfolios
- Education and Professional Training
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in any area from a recognised and accredited institution
- At least three (3) years’ experience in portfolio management in financial services
- At least two (2) year experience in a credit /risk environment in the micro-enterprise segment
