Job summary

The position of Finance Officer is responsible for providing leadership and technical support for efficient management of organizational resources in particular funds, inventory, and assets of AHF Ghana and ensuring an efficient accounting and reporting system. In addition, the position takes lead in appraising, monitoring, and mitigating both financial and non-financial risks affecting the organization through promoting compliance to finance policies compliance and appropriate response to the socioeconomic, legal, financial, and political environment in the country. This position works closely with the Regional Finance & Operations Manager for East West Africa Bureau on financial and technical areas.

Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manages the full accounting cycle functions and practices to ensure accurate and reliable data necessary for the country program operation.
  • Assures that the financial structure and reporting practices follow AHF policies and procedures as well as rules and regulations governing financial management.
  • Participate as a member of a team to develop and maintain a sound accounting system and ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Follow through finance and other related instructions from Global accounting and liaise with the accounting firm for their execution.
  • Communicate timely and very concisely with the Global Finance manager and ancillary stakeholders.
  • Assures the accuracy and timely reporting of accounting data and financial analysis related to the country program.
  • Provides timely, accurate, informative, and relevant financial reports/information that supports Managers in making strategic and operational data-based decisions.
  • Liaises and aids the Finance Director Africa Bureau and Regional Finance Manager when requested.
  • Financial duties and tasks include:
  • Review, analyze and verify various business transactions including all revenues, expenses, and accruals.
  • Review and confirm finance reports including the monthly balance sheet and reconciliations for Global Finance’s reporting purposes.
  • Review monthly general ledger for accuracy and provide periodic updates, variance analysis and performance reports.
  • Provide cash and petty cash management oversight.
  • Prepares monthly cash budget and manages cash flows by assuring that adequate cash is available.
  • Provide information to Global Finance about compulsory legal requirements including required tax filings and other legal business filings, insurance requirements, and any other requirements that may be mandatory in Ghana, including any changes. Assist AHF in assuring compliance with all laws and regulations.
  • Provide assistance by supporting Global accounting efforts as directed
  • Provide support with Annual Financial Audits, Contract Audits, and any additional audits, as necessary.
  • Participate in preparation of budgets.
  • Perform constant monitoring of financial and accounting requests and submissions to assure compliance with policy.
  • Manage staff advances assuring that advances are controlled, monitored, and cleared in line with the relevant policies.
  • Monitor drug, condoms, HIV test kits inventory reporting and value.
  • Maintenance of depreciation/fixed asset schedules and regularly reconciling them with the asset management software (AP) reports.
  • Support the payroll process by providing/communicating timely updates and changes.
  • Manages the Bucket staff payroll and salary transfers to the respective entities.
  • Keep safe custody of financial contracts, MOUs, and other agreements.
  • Perform a wide variety of special projects and data gathering functions as well as developing reports as may be instructed.
  • Train both Finance and non-finance staff and support the programs to comply with AHF policies, best practices and national laws.


Risk Management

  • Review risk protocols through the risk management framework and make appropriate recommendations to CPM for implementation, modification, and improvements.
  • Assess and identify risks that could impede the reputation, safety, and financial success of AHF Ghana.
  • Monitor implementation of the Risk management plan and monthly report on the progress
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications, Education, and Experience:

  • Minimum education equivalent to bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance related course with a minimum of 3 years related experience and/or training or equivalentcombination of education and experience.
  • Completion of at least stage three (3) of ACCA, CPA or CA is a must. Experience in Audit and INGO Accounting work will be an added advantage
