Job Description/Requirements
Responsibilities:
- Creates different optical design architectures for particular applications and requirements
- Performs detailed simulation analysis for the designs for risk mitigations as needed for the new product development and product upgrades
- Performs experiments & analysis to evaluate robustness of the optical design to noise and environmental variables
- Identifies potential improvements in the designs via existing data or simulation
- Engages with vendors and suppliers for design improvements, cost reduction and reliability improvements
- Interacts with device, hardware, and software design teams to assist in overall development of optical systems, specifying, selecting and qualifying active and passive optical components, developing and benchmarking system performance models
- Develops and implements test procedures and/or evaluates and selects appropriate test instrumentation
- Tests new and existing designs and documents changes through a formal engineering change notification process
- May apply quantitative analysis in determining root cause of highly technical problems and propose, develop, and implement solutions for corrective action
- Provides multi-discipline support to operations and other functional groups in different stages of the product lifecycle
- Develop system design concepts and architectures for laser-based tracking systems
- Detailed optical system analysis for a given optical system design
- Tolerance allocation of optical system and perform design for manufacturability in simulation to predict as built performance
- Evaluate the design for robustness to noise and environmental variables
- DFM with vendor
- Drive module development from prototypes to series state, interfacing with external partners
Requirements:
- Master's degree or equivalent work experience
- Deep knowledge of, and experience with Optical Design Software
- Optical design skills on module level
- Experience in optical system manufacturing
- Experience in applying Design for X principles (design for manufacturing, service, cost, reliability)
- Profound experience in at least one additional optical area (laser systems, camera systems, or similar)
- Profound programming skills for advanced data analysis, test implementation and system accuracy analysis
- Can decompose larger sections of work
- Can turn ticket into solution
