Pump House Operator

Responsibility

Pump operation and monitoring

• Operate and shut down pumps according to irrigation schedules
• Ensure correct pressure and flow rates are maintained for all irrigation zones
• Monitor gauges, meters and control panels throughout operation

Maintenance and inspection

• Perform daily checks on pumps, filters and pipelines
• Clean suction lines, filters and strainers as needed
• Identify and report wear, leaks or unusual noises early
• Develop a checklist for inspection done

Water level and pressure management

• Monitor water levels and advice Head of Irrigation as needed
• Adjust pump operations to maintain required field pressure
• Track water distribution across fields

Record keeping & reporting ●

• Record daily running hours, water flow readings, water usage,pressure levels, water level and fuel or power usage
• Log all maintenance, inspection and repairs done
• Submit reports to supervisor as needed
• If any treatments are used,handle safely and ensure it is well recorded

Safety and Coordination

• Follow all safety procedures during pump operation and maintenance
• Communicate promptly with the irrigation team on schedule changes
• Report unsafe conditions or equipment issues immediately
• Ensure the pump area and equipment are operated following health, safety and environmental guidelines

Requirements:

• Certificate or Diploma in Mechanical, Agricultural or equivalent course
• Minimum 3yrs experience in pump operation, irrigation systems and water management in an Agricultural set up
• Proven ability to troubleshoot and maintain mechanical and electrical components of pumping systems
• Flexibility and adaptability
• Strong communication skills in English, with ability to document and compile operation and maintenance reports
• Flexible, adaptable and safety-conscious with a proactive approach to work
