The Company
Globe 24-7 in partnership with a key multinational mining client are working together to source an experienced and qualified Chief Long-Term Planning Engineer for their site in Ghana - Obuasi mine. This can be a local hire or an expat.
The Role
To build, develop, and lead an effective team capable of delivering industry leading practices within the mine planning & technical support functions in order to achieve business objectives/targets.
The Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for addressing and completing all corrective actions assigned to them or within their scope of authority in a timely manner.
- Evaluate risks for all tasks and ensure they are effectively managed before and during execution.
- Report all incidents, ensure thorough investigations are conducted, and verify that corrective actions are completed promptly.
- Develop and sustain an integrated mine planning process that ensures smooth coordination among long-term, medium-term, and short-term planning activities.
- Assess mining expansion projects as part of life-of-mine planning processes.
- Oversee strategic options planning and take accountability for its outcomes.
- Prepare and submit annual mineral reserve estimates for approval, ensuring compliance with SK-1300 and NI-43-101 standards.
- Build and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders through structured communication routines, touchpoints, and meetings.
- Provide clear mine planning data to support the creation of a comprehensive life-of-mine plan.
- Manage the Mine Planning function’s work within approved budgets, timelines, costs, and performance metrics (KPIs).
- Offer senior-level technical leadership to enhance team capabilities and ensure delivery of the annual budget within their role’s scope of authority.
- Recommend improvements to specialist projects and research within the mine planning process and procedures.
- Establish a network of stakeholder relationships to promote initiatives and improvements.
- Report on progress related to mine planning enhancements, including outputs achieved and benefits realized.
- Present solutions to specific challenges using defined methodologies and resources to improve processes and procedures for enhanced mine planning performance.
- Anticipate potential issues in processes or procedures within the Mine Planning domain by implementing:
- Statistical controls (alert systems),
- Enhanced work practices, procedures, and processes,
- Improved knowledge and skills among team members.
- Demonstrate progress in work programs through reports showcasing results.
- Optimize existing Mine Planning procedures by applying problem-solving methodologies for process improvement.
- Foster consistent team performance while maintaining positive relationships within the department and across functions.
- Build constructive relationships with both internal stakeholders (e.g., Corporate, Group Planning & Technical teams, sister mines) and external stakeholders (e.g., regulatory agencies, Minerals Commission) to understand societal expectations and regulatory requirements as they evolve.
The Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
- Over 8 years of proven mine planning experience in underground or open-pit mining, with at least 5 years in a senior supervisory role within a planning/technical department.
- Proficiency in mine planning software, especially Deswik or Datamine.
- Knowledge of various underground mining methods; experience in open-pit mine design is an advantage
- Strong communication skills and understanding of key mining processes to optimize performance.
- Expertise in production management, tracking systems, dispatch systems, surveying, geology, contract management, drilling, and blasting techniques.
- Advanced knowledge of mine planning systems (long-term to short-term) and principles of mine design optimization.
- Ability to generate annual mine reserve statements and act as a competent person for compliance.
- Familiarity with contract deliverables and processes, including drafting and analyzing variations for approval.
- Leadership in creating disciplined teams to meet standards and deliver planned work.

- Problem-solving, driving results, and maximizing performance.
