The Network Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing, managing and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the company's network infrastructure.

Job Description/Requirements

Specific Responsibilities:


Network Infrastructure Management:

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices.
  • Manage the configuration and deployment of network services such as VPNs, load balancers, and content delivery networks (CDNs).
  • Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and migrations to accommodate growth and new technologies.
  • Network Monitoring and Troubleshooting:
  • Implement network monitoring tools and processes to proactively identify and resolve performance issues, outages, and security incidents.
  • Analyze network traffic patterns and usage trends to identify bottlenecks and optimize network performance.
  • Collaborate with vendors and service providers to troubleshoot and resolve complex network issues.


Network Security:

  • Develop and implement network security policies, standards, and best practices to protect the organization's infrastructure from cyber threats.
  • Configure and maintain firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and other security appliances.
  • Monitor network traffic for potential security breaches and respond to security incidents promptly.
  • Capacity Planning and Resource Management:
  •  Analyze current and forecasted network usage patterns to ensure adequate capacity and resources are available.
  • Plan and implement network capacity upgrades, such as increasing bandwidth or adding redundancy measures.
  • Manage and allocate network resources, such as IP addresses, VLANs, and Quality of Service (QoS) configurations.


Vendor and Service Provider Management:

  • Evaluate and select network equipment, software, and service providers based on technical requirements and cost-effectiveness.
  • Negotiate contracts and service level agreements (SLAs) with vendors and service providers.
  • Manage vendor relationships, ensure compliance with SLAs, and oversee the procurement and deployment of new network solutions.


Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders, highlighting network performance, security posture, and future planning.


Team Management and Training:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the network operations team, including network administrators, engineers, and technicians.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and training to team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Develop and implement network operations processes, procedures, and best practices.


Employee Specification

Qualification / Experience:  

 

  • A first degree in computer science, information technology, computer engineering, or a related field is generally required.
  • Coursework in areas such as computer networks, network security, system administration, and project management is beneficial.
  • Professional certifications:
  • Industry-recognized certifications demonstrate expertise and knowledge in specific networking technologies and vendor platforms.
  • Common certifications for network operations managers include:
  • Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Cisco Certified Network Professional
  • CompTIA Network+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  • Extensive hands-on experience in network administration, systems engineering, or network operations is usually required, typically ranging from 5 to 10 years or more.
  • Experience in managing complex network infrastructures, leading teams, and overseeing projects is highly valued.
