Freelance FMCG Market Insider
Job summary
We are looking for an experienced FMCG professional based in Accra who knows the local trade landscape from the ground up – someone who has worked directly within distribution, sales, or trade operations and has real relationships with key players across the supply chain. This is not a theoretical or academic role. We need someone who understands how products actually move through the Ghanaian market: who the buyers are, how distributors operate, where the decisions are made, and what it takes to get a confectionery product onto shelves and into consumers' hands.
Job descriptions & requirements
This Role Can Be Your Second Job
We understand that the right candidate is likely already active in the industry. You do not need to leave your current position to work with us. This collaboration is designed to start on a freelance basis, fully compatible with existing employment. Many of the best professionals we want to reach are already employed – and that is perfectly fine. As the project develops and trust is established, opportunities for a deeper, more committed role will naturally emerge – for those who want them.
Initial Field Collaboration (Optional – June 2026)
If your schedule allows, we would welcome the opportunity to work together in person during our visit to Accra in the week of 21–25 June 2026. This is not a strict requirement – remote collaboration is equally possible from the start – but meeting in person would be a great way to begin. During this period we would aim to:
- Visit key distribution hubs, wholesale markets, supermarkets, and trade points across the Accra area.
- Evaluate confectionery product ranges, competitive landscape, and pricing structures at point of sale.
- Meet potential buyers, distributors, and trade partners.
- Get a first-hand understanding of how the local FMCG ecosystem operates.
Scope of Work
On a flexible, ongoing basis you will:
- Provide expert insights on local FMCG distribution channels: wholesale markets, regional distributors, van selling operations, supermarkets & modern trade, and export/import companies.
- Identify and evaluate potential distribution partners, importers, and retail buyers for confectionery products.
- Conduct focused field research: product availability, shelf placement, competitive dynamics, and pricing intelligence
- Source potential local suppliers, trading partners, or co-manufacturers where relevant.
- Deliver structured, clear reports via email and Microsoft Teams – regular communication is key to our collaboration.
- Act as a trusted local point of contact, able to follow up on leads and gather market intelligence independently between visits.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in FMCG sales, distribution, trade marketing, or related fields in Ghana.
- Deep, practical knowledge of Ghanaian distribution channels – you know the key players personally.
- Strong professional network across the trade: wholesalers, distributors, modern trade buyers, importers.
- Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) – required for reporting and documentation.
- Confident written and verbal communication in English; reliable availability via email and Microsoft Teams.
- Self-starter with a high level of integrity, reliability, and initiative – able to work independently.
A Strong Advantage:
- Own vehicle – having a car makes field work together significantly easier and more productive, but it is not a knockout criterion. Candidates without a vehicle are equally encouraged to apply.
- Existing relationships with confectionery or food importers/distributors.
- Experience working with or for international brands or trading companies.
- Knowledge of local languages (Twi, Hausa, or others) in addition to English.
What We Offer
- Freelance compensation by agreement – remuneration is based on time invested (days/hours), tasks fulfilled, and expenses incurred. We are fair, transparent, and committed to rewarding real contribution.
- Flexibility: work around your current commitments. This role is designed for professionals who want to explore a new direction without upending their existing situation.
- A real long-term perspective: as this project develops, strong performers will be considered for permanent roles in Sales Management or General Management – with full scope to grow alongside the business.
- Open-ended opportunity: you would be joining at the ground floor of a new venture, with the potential to build a stable and meaningful career within our organisation.
- Direct collaboration with an international management team – professional exposure and genuine partnership from day one.
How to Apply:
Please apply with a short cover note describing your background in FMCG and your knowledge of the Ghanaian market. Attach your CV with picture and indicate your availability and your expectations.
