Job summary
As a Embedded Linux Engineer, you’ll will work for one of our Clients and be a part of the R&D team developing a custom, easy-and-ready-to-use Linux-based operating system supported on client specific hardware and 3rd party hardware. The industrial IoT platform simplifies modern iterative development, maintenance, and operation of distributed edge devices. It is a scalable full-stack DevOps-oriented solution, seamlessly integrating device hardware & software (including a Linux OS), development tools, cloud-based remote updates & fleet management, for high reliability and security applications. Your focus will be on maintaining our open source Ope Embedded/Yocto layers, as well as keeping close contact with the R&D team responsible for maintaining Toradex BSP. You will help maintaining and expanding our automated build and tests to guarantee the high level of quality of Toradex software.

Roles & Responsibilities:
- Maintain and add support Torizon OS for different SoC platforms (NXP, TI and more to come)
- Keep close contactwith other teams inside R&D to guarantee Toradex’s full stack approach
- Maintain and expand automated build and test cases for Torizon OS
- Continuously improve DevOps best practices
- A general role is possible, however, depending on specialization other responsibilities may be discussed. These include:
- BSP: With expertise in Embedded Linux: Bootloader and Linux Kernel
- Making sure Linux BSPs and related software offerings for our SoMs (System on Modules) are constantly developed, maintained, and quality improved - from initial bring-up, to driver and kernel development, up to build-system, tooling and distro level development.
- Develop and maintain Embedded Linux BSPs for embedded computer modules
- Device driver development: optimizations, bug fixing, add new functionality
- Eco-system: porting of third party software libraries, develop Software tools and utilities from scratch, Boot loader firmware
- Debian and Container Development: With expertise in Debian:
- Focus on Debian Packages and Containers for the OS, responsible for maintaining the Debian-based Docker images - specialized to leverage the graphics stack and hardware acceleration - and the Debian packages for embedded SoCs vendor-specific features like GPU, NPU, VPU, and the upstream community packages.
- Write and update Debian packages for downstream SoC vendor packages.
- Contribute to upstream Debian packages related to features supported by Torizon.
- Create and maintain existing Debian-based Docker container images for Torizon.
- Maintain and improve the packages and containers' automated build and test infrastructure

Mandatory:
- Experience OpenEmbedded/Yocto and its best practices
- Experience in Embedded Linux and Embedded Systems
- Advanced Linux knowledge
- Intermediate Docker knowledge
- Proactive and communicate
Nice to have:
- Contributions to FOSS projects
- Contributions to Debian
Willing to learn:
- How to debug OS/embedded system/software in various languages
- Best practices on build automation and test setup (CI/CD, DevOps)
- Writing automated tests
