Job summary
The Assistant Electrician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and installation of electrical and electromechanical systems within the organization. The role ensures safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical equipment, including solid-state systems, wiring networks, generators, and high-voltage installations in compliance with Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) standards and internal company electrical safety standards.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Inspect, maintain, and overhaul electromechanical and solid-state electrical equipment.
- Diagnose electrical faults using meters, testers, and other diagnostic tools.
- Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical systems and machinery.
- Repair or replace faulty wiring, components, and control systems.
- Install new electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with ECG regulations and company standards.
- Carry out electrical wiring for new systems, machinery, and facility upgrades.
- Support commissioning and testing of installed electrical systems.
- Assist in high-voltage switching operations under supervision and approved procedures.
- Operate and monitor generators to ensure continuous power supply during operations.
- Support load management and emergency power restoration activities.
- Ensure all electrical work complies with safety standards and regulations.
- Adhere strictly to lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and electrical safety protocols.
- Maintain a safe working environment and report hazards promptly.
- Record maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections performed.
- Maintain logs for equipment performance, faults, and service history.
- Provide reports to supervisors on system status and breakdowns.
- Higher National Diploma (HND) or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- 2–5 years of relevant working experience in electrical maintenance or industrial operations.
- Strong knowledge of electrical systems, wiring standards, and industrial equipment.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Familiarity with generator operations and high-voltage systems.
