CONSTRUCTION SUPERINTENDENT

Reports Directly to: Project Manager
OBJECTIVE: The Construction Superintendent is responsible for the on-site supervision and coordination of all construction and installation activities for all disciplines like; civil, mechanical, electrical, C&I, QAQC, pre-commissioning and commissioning works, Site acceptance tests, related to power generation projects, including the construction of new facilities, site development, and relocation of existing infrastructure. This is a field-based role requiring strong leadership, practical construction knowledge, and a firm commitment to safety, quality, and schedule adherence. The Construction Superintendent ensures that all construction and installation activities are executed according to project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
CONSTRUCTION
- Lead the day-to-day on-site construction activities, ensuring work is executed safely, on time, and in accordance with plans, specifications, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with Plant Managers, Project Manager, Engineering Managers, contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders to coordinate construction phases and resolve field issues in real time.
- Monitor and enforce safety compliance across all construction and installation work areas; ensure adherence to site safety procedures and participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
- Review construction drawings, method statements, and work plans to verify constructability and alignment with site conditions; raise RFIs where necessary and work with engineering teams for clarifications.
- Manage site logistics, including laydown areas, material deliveries, equipment allocation, and access coordination.
- Track construction and installation progress against the project schedule; identify delays or risks and implement corrective measures or recovery plans as needed.
- Perform regular site inspections to monitor quality and workmanship; ensure contractors are meeting contractual requirements and applicable codes.
- Assist with quantity tracking, progress reporting, and change management, including the evaluation and documentation of scope changes.
- Support Plant Managers and Project Controls teams with documentation for EPC contract claims, scope adjustments, and progress validation.
- Ensure that punch list items and final close-out activities for construction and installation works are completed in a timely and thorough manner.
BUDGETING
- Actively assist the Department Head with the preparation of the monthly budget.
- Develop and manage all budget items, including cost control and expenditure forecasting.
- Ensure the budget is in line with the department’s scheduled activities.
ORGANIZATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Supervise the team to execute assigned projects within deadlines and budget.
- Carry out performance appraisals and development plans with subordinate staff.
- Coordinate the leave schedule of subordinate staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Construction Management is mandatory.
- Master's degree is a plus.
- Multicultural experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in French is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
- A minimum of 8+ years of experience in a similar role, preferably in the power generation or heavy industrial sectors.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Excellent understanding of construction and installation processes, materials, equipment, and sequencing.
- Familiarity with construction safety regulations and practices (e.g., OSHA).
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple crews and contractors on-site.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Skilled in using construction management tools (e.g., Procore, MS Project, Primavera).
- Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive, hands-on approach.
