JOB PURPOSE

• The Technical Lead for Enterprise Virtualization and Storage Systems oversee the design, architecture, implementation, and management of enterprise virtualization and storage infrastructure.
• This role ensures high availability, scalability, security, and performance to support critical business applications.
• Responsibilities include driving innovation, modernization, and cybersecurity integration, while aligning with enterprise architecture and business goals. The position requires a balance of strategic vision and hands-on execution across virtualization and storage technologies.
  

JOB CONTEXT

• Solution Architecture: The Technical Lead is responsible for creating solution architectures that effectively address both present and future business requirements. This includes designing systems that are scalable, adaptable, and capable of supporting evolving organizational needs.
• Solution Implementation: Once the architecture is designed, the Technical Lead oversees its implementation to ensure that solutions are fully functional, of high quality, and easy to manage. This process involves building robust frameworks that are reliable and maintainable within the enterprise environment.
• Governance: The role includes governing the proper implementation of solution architectures across various projects and programs. The Technical Lead ensures that established standards and architectural guidelines are followed to maintain consistency and alignment with organizational objectives.
• Strategic Engagement: Participation at a strategic level is essential, involving engagement in long-term planning and decision-making that impacts the organization. The Technical Lead contributes to shaping the direction of enterprise initiatives and ensures that architectural decisions support overall business strategies.
• Functional Requirements: A key responsibility is to verify that solution architectures fulfil all defined business needs. This involves translating requirements into technical solutions that deliver tangible value to the organization.
• Service Quality: Maintaining high standards for service quality is crucial. The Technical Lead ensures that solutions are reliable, perform efficiently, and result in strong user satisfaction across the enterprise.
  

Systems Management: Effective systems management is emphasized, focusing on sustainability, security, and ease of maintenance. The Technical Lead ensures that all architectural solutions are secure and can be efficiently managed over their lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Design and Architecture

• Architect secure, end-to-end virtualization and storage solutions that meet business requirements for performance, scalability, and resilience.
• Integrate cybersecurity principles into solution design, including secure configurations, encryption, and zero-trust architecture.
• Develop reference architectures, technical standards, and best practices for virtualization and storage systems.
• Collaborate with enterprise architects and security teams to ensure alignment with IT architecture and compliance frameworks.
  

Strategic Impact

• Define standards for the enterprise virtualization & storage systems domain.
• Contribute and be part of medium and large projects within and outside of the enterprise engineering team.
• Understand other business areas priorities to help them understand where new technology can help them achieve their goals.
  

Decision Making

• Resolve complex problems within the enterprise virtualization & storage systems technology space.
• You will be responsible for making important day to day decisions to but with guidance from your reporting manager when needed for longer term impact.
  

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain accurate documentation of architectural designs, configurations, and operational procedures.
• Prepare capacity planning reports, performance dashboards, and security compliance reports.
• Develop and maintain knowledge base for operational excellence and cybersecurity awareness.
  

Service and Support

• Become the go-to-person for internal customer questions, inquiries and challenges.
• Determine when an issue should be escalated through incident response teams.
  

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

• Partner with application, network, and security teams to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.
• Act as a technical advisor to senior management on virtualization and storage systems strategies.
• Provide leadership during audits, compliance reviews, and strategic planning sessions.
  

Team Management

• Able to develop and grow internal talent.
• Ability to deal with complex issues and work autonomously, keeping management informed of any major issues.
• Advise management on trends within domain and individual training requirements.
• Ensure timely feedback on all activities, constraints and follow up on issues within domain.
  

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor of science in computer science, IT, or related field (master’s degree preferred).
• Over 7 years’ experience in enterprise virtualization and storage, including 3+ years in leadership or architect roles.
• Proven expertise in designing and architecting secure virtualization and storage solutions.
• Strong hands-on experience with but not limited to VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM and Azure infrastructure services.
• Deep knowledge of enterprise storage technologies (Dell EMC, NetApp, Huawei, HPE, IBM) and storage virtualization.
• Familiarity with private cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Oracle) and hybrid infrastructure models.
• Experience with datacenter and virtual networking technologies
• Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam, Commvault).
• Solid understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, threat mitigation, and compliance standards
• High level of proficiency in documentation and report writing of technical and other information with MS Office Suite and Visio.
• Proven experience of successfully building and deploying enterprise virtualization platforms, storage and backup solutions in a complex enterprise environment.
• Experience and good understanding TCP/IP and data network technologies
• Proven experience of problem-solving with the ability to identify alternative solutions to complex issues.
• Experience with storage and SAN technologies; iSCSI, FC, Zoning, hyperconverged storage and Storage Tiering.
• Understanding of clustering and other high availability/fault tolerance technologies.
• Solid understanding of Linux Server, windows server, and workstation operating systems.
• Knowledge of systems management, performance tuning, and monitoring tools.
