Job Description
JOB PURPOSE

• The Manager of Unix/Linux and Storage Systems Operations is responsible for leading the operations team and serving as the primary escalation point for all technical issues related to Linux, Cloud, and Storage platforms. The role requires close collaboration with the Engineering team and other stakeholders in the design, deployment, and maintenance of high-performance, low-latency enterprise platforms, while establishing clear operational priorities.
• The ideal candidate must have a deep technical background with an automation mindset. He/she must have the drive to motivate the team, show leadership skills, be committed to excellence, and be dedicated to owning complex projects and problems with minimal supervision.
  

The Responsibilities Associated With This Role Include

• Lead the Unix & Storage operations team.
• Own and participate in the management of the systems infrastructure and platforms.
• Establish and maintain operational processes and procedures related to running the environments.
• Be responsible for incident reports, follow-ups, and root cause analysis.
• Mentor and set priorities for a highly skilled team Unix and Storage team.
• Engage in vendor management interactions pertaining to support issues and technical roadmaps.
• Additional responsibilities include developing and implementing procedures for Information lifecycle management, Virtualization strategy, and tools to manage performance, availability, and capacity.
  

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

• Availability management –Ensure 99.9% minimum application/information services availability via 99.9% availability of Information systems components (Servers and platforms) and 100% data availability.
• Performance management – Ensure optimal performance of all Cloud, Unix and Storage systems.
• IT Governance – Compliance with policies, procedures and SLAs defined by the Service management team for handling changes, incidents and Problems in the production environment.
• Capacity management – Ensure adequate capacity on backend system infrastructure to meet business growth/needs.
• Business continuity management –Guaranteed zero data loss in a disaster.
• Customer Satisfaction – Ensure that all customers of the Group are well served and satisfied with the services delivered by the information infrastructure team.
• Project Effectiveness – Successful project delivery adhering to business deadlines and technical standards.
• Ensure that a world-class set of appropriate standards, Processes and procedures are defined, approved, and adopted for all Cloud, Unix/Linux and Storage-based business solutions.
• Consolidate servers, storage and database systems as defined in the IT strategy.
• Reporting – Timeliness, Accuracy, and relevance
  

Key Responsibilities

• Installs, configures, administers, tunes and optimizes complex systems and platforms (Cloud, Unix/Linux, Storage) and related components to achieve high availability and performance.
• Performs platform-specific technical tasks, including operating system upgrades, installation, and
  

Configuration of various software packages, installation of patches and fixes.

• Performs detailed troubleshooting for complex operational issues.
• Develops, configures, and maintains user/group accounts, process improvement procedures, scripting, task automation, system monitoring, file system management, and disaster recovery for the organization’s UNIX infrastructure.
• Performs tasks relating to PowerHA and other replication and business continuity products, including patching, health checks, audit review and repair, configuration modifications, and role swap/switch processing.
• Ensure the adherence of all SLA/OLAs assigned to the team.
• Manage team escalations, issues, and challenges.
• Ensure that all people management activities are addressed and escalated.
• Work closely with the Unit head to formulate policies, enforce processes and implement agreed strategy.
• Provides technical consultation and guidance on complex projects with peers, management, and internal customers; may act as the technical lead for new IT projects.
• Work with other business units and stakeholders to complete tasks and issues
• Performs other duties as assigned.
  

Qualification Required & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems or a related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
• Certification(s) in related ICT specializations – e.g. AIX, ITIL, LINUX, OCP, IBM Certified, AWS, Azure, GCP, Kubernetes Certified Administrator, RedHat Certified Expert or other Enterprise Linux certification.
• Master’s degree in computer science or information systems or related field from an institution accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency will be an added advantage.
  

Experience

• Experience working in Unix/Cloud Operation role in a managerial capacity.
• years’ experience in a computer-related field, including four years as a systems administrator.
• or 5 years of Unix System Administration experience in a production, 24/7 environment
• Expert with storage sizing, performance and high availability.
• Experience supporting IBM Power systems / IBM AIX operating system.
• Knowledge of IBM/AIX/Hitachi storage concepts and administration
• Experience with Hardware Management Console (HMC) and logical partitioning
• Experience with RedHat Linux operating system
• Experience working with public cloud environments like AWS, Azure, GCP and IBM cloud
• Experience with containerization/ orchestration platforms like Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience with configuration management tools like Ansible, Puppet or Chef
• Knowledge of network TCP/IP networking
• Proven experience in monitoring, supporting and managing complex systems.
• Understanding of clustering and other high availability/fault tolerance technologies
• High level of proficiency in documentation and report writing of technical and other information, with MS Office Suite and Visio
