About This Role
Provide field-based geological and technical support to the Grade Control Geologists and Technical Services team. The role supports the effective execution of grade control activities through accurate data collection, sampling, monitoring, and in-pit coordination to ensure optimal ore delineation, sample integrity, and compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively promote a strong safety culture, hazard awareness and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at all times.
- Participate in toolbox meetings, safety briefings and continuous improvement initiatives
- Assist Grade Control Geologists in day-to-day in-pit geological activities, including ore mark-out, blasthole logging, blast movement installation, monitoring and reconciliation support.
- Support the execution of grade control procedures to ensure accurate ore/waste delineation and optimal mine planning outcomes.
- Assist with geological mapping, moisture content measurements, density determinations and other field-based geological observations
- Capture and record geological field data from core drilling, RC drilling, blastholes, grab samples, density tests and mapping activities in an accurate and timely manner.
- Carry out core sampling in accordance with cut sheets provided by the Geologist, ensuring correct sample bagging, labelling, sealing and insertion of recommended Certified Reference Materials (CRMs).
- Collect grab and sludge samples in accordance with approved SOPs and quality control requirements.
- Ensure all samples are collected using the correct sample bags, labels, and documentation to maintain sample integrity and traceability.
- Facilitate sample sorting, preparation and submission to the laboratory in coordination with Geologists.
- Coordinate and monitor mining activities on transit pads and ROM pads to support grade control requirements.
- Carry out ore spotting activities and support mining operations within the pits as directed.
- Take accurate records of truck and loader counts and support weighbridge coordination activities.
- Liaise with mining, survey, and processing teams to ensure effective execution of field activities with minimal operational disruption
- Assist with the installation, operation, and monitoring of blast movement and other geological or technical instruments.
- Maintain adequate stock levels of sampling consumables, including sample bags, marker pens, and CRM samples and raise timely requisitions for replenishment.
- Compile and submit accurate field reports, logs and records in line with departmental requirements
- Perform other responsibilities as reasonably assigned.
Education, Work Experience & Key Competencies
- Minimum of basic educational qualification, NVTI or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of one (1) year relevant experience in a mining environment performing similar field duties.
- General knowledge of geological and grade control sampling procedures.
- Strong knowledge and practical experience in core handling and sample preparation activities.
- Proficiency in the use of weighing balances for accurate sample measurements.
- Practical experience in sampling techniques, blasthole logging, and geological data collection is an advantage
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team-oriented environment.
- Highly motivated, flexible, and willing to attend call-out duties as required.
- Proven record of reliability, punctuality and strong work ethic.
- Proactive approach to safety with the ability to identify hazards and work safely under pressure.
- Defensive driving skills.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with geological data recording systems.
