The Accountant is responsible for managing financial records, ensuring accuracy in transactions, supporting budgeting and reporting processes, and maintaining compliance with financial regulations. The role plays a key part in monitoring costs, margins, and cash flow within a high- volume FMCG environment.

Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities

Financial Record Keeping
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Record daily transactions including sales, purchases, expenses, and receipts.
  • Reconcile bank statements and company accounts regularly.

Accounts Payable & Receivable
  • Manage supplier invoices, payments, and reconciliations.
  • Monitor customer accounts and ensure timely collections.
  • Follow up on outstanding receivables and resolve discrepancies.

Inventory & Cost Control
  • Work closely with warehouse and sales teams to track inventory movements.
  • Monitor cost of goods sold (COGS) and product margins.
  • Reconcile physical stock with accounting records.

Financial Reporting
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
  • Generate profit and loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
  • Provide financial insights to support business decisions.

Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Assist in preparing budgets and financial forecasts.
  • Track performance against budgets and analyze variances.

Compliance & Taxation
  • Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
  • Prepare and file tax returns (VAT, PAYE, corporate tax, etc.).
  • Liaise with auditors and regulatory bodies when required.

Internal Controls

  • Implement and maintain strong financial controls.
  • Detect and prevent fraud, errors, or financial leakages.

Key Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Professional certification (ACCA, ICA, CIMA) is an advantage.
  • 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in FMCG or retail.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, ERP systems).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
