Job Summary

The Ward Attendant plays an essential support role in the hospital environment by assisting with basic patient care, transporting patients, managing hospital equipment, and maintaining a clean and safe ward. The role requires compassion, physical stamina, and a high level of professionalism while supporting nurses and ensuring smooth daily ward operations.

Job Description/Requirements

Key Responsibilities


  • Assist patients with basic personal care including washing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
  • Transport patients safely between wards, departments, and procedure rooms using wheelchairs or mobile beds.
  • Keep wards clean, tidy, and well-organized; manage linen and support sterilization of basic equipment.
  • Move, arrange, and maintain simple medical equipment as directed by nursing staff.
  • Support nurses with simple, non-clinical procedures and patient positioning.
  • Handle medical waste appropriately and assist with ward logistics and errands.
  • Ensure ward supplies such as linen, gloves, and cleaning materials are always available.
  • Report patient concerns, safety issues, and ward needs promptly to supervisors.
  • Uphold confidentiality, professionalism, and compassionate patient care at all times.

  • Strong physical stamina for lifting, moving, or assisting patients.
  • Compassion, patience, and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately from nurses and doctors.
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Basic attention to detail and record-keeping skills.


Qualification and Experience


  • SHS certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience in a hospital setting, caregiving, or patient support is an advantage but not required.
  • Must be willing to work in different wards and shifts, including weekends if necessary.
  • Strong interest in healthcare support and assisting patients.
