Job Description

Under minimal supervision, the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Programmer will design control programs for the industrial automation of various manufacturing processes aimed to improve key performance indicators such as safety, quality, delivery and costs. S/he will be responsible for designing schematics, writing and documenting programs, implementing test programs, installing programs, and providing technical support once deployed in our manufacturing facilities.


  • Develop and implement programming standards to support process automation

  • Develop the schematics and electrical control system to automate processes including logic flow diagrams and sequencing of operations and controls of system architecture

  • Evaluates current and manual processes to determine process and equipment requirements needed to support process automation

  • Supports the Capital Allocation Request (CAR) process by estimating new system quotations; may purchase and specify new or existing system components

  • Prepares all engineering documentation and specifications required to ensure the successful implementation of assigned projects; verifies correct operation of systems

  • Establishes procedures for performance testing and demonstrations culminating with formal internal customer acceptance; ensures adherence of all procedural concerns

  • Generates Bills of Materials for automation systems and panels


Qualification and Requirements

  • Associate’s degree within a related technical discipline; an equivalent amount of related experience may be substituted in lieu of an associate’s degree

  • Previous experience in PLC (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Fanuc Robots, Universal Robots) and Human Machine Interface (HMI) programming, testing, and field start-up

  • Working knowledge of HMI Panels and Panel PCs (Red Lion, PanelMate, Eaton, Allen Bradley, Schneider); ability to design panels and layout using AutoCAD software

  • Working knowledge of 110/220/440 single phase and 3 phase AC power, 12 V DC and 24 V DC power sources, and in the selection and use of proxy switches, laser optics, photoelectric and vision sensors

  • Knowledge of electrical and controls engineering theories and principles

  • Knowledge in panel and total machine control and power wiring

  • Excellence interpersonal, leadership, verbal, and written skills

  • Ability to coordinate small to large projects, independently
