Head, Information Technology

The Head, Information Technology will involve working closely with a range of both internal and external stakeholders and requires the ability to work at both technical and strategic level. The role will report directly to the Managing Director/CEO and working closely with the Chief Information Officer of the Ecosystem and the Head, IT at the Coronation Insurance PLC.

Role and Responsibilities:

• Drive the development and implementation of IT strategy and policies for the entity that are in line with the company’s strategic plan and objectives
• Translate the entity’s IT strategy into well-articulated objectives for the IT department, and develop a structured implementation plan
• Manage the strategic direction of key IT resources including websites and information databases, intranet systems, telecommunications systems etc.
• Access operational risks associated with the entity’s IT operations and develop strategies for minimizing or eliminating the occurrence of such risks
• Develop and manage the planning and budgeting for IT services to ensure that resources are used to provide best in class IT services that are in line with the entity’s strategy
• Enhance staff understanding of IT risk assessment and management including the tools and techniques available to define innovative future leading practices in risk management
• Regularly benchmark Asset Management process performance.
• Proactively use Asset Management information in capacity of trusted advisor to the business, to inform business strategy decisions.
• Organize, prioritize, and direct a portfolio of multiple projects towards a defined transformation initiative
• Develop roadmap to improve cybersecurity capabilities, including investment needs
• Develop controls for emerging technologies and integrates with organization initiatives to drive secure strategies and deployment.
• Provide effective strategic direction to enterprise-wide platform design and initiatives.
• Build consensus across the company for security planning and implementation for systems and networks.
• Explore cross-functional IT business and technology synergies that can help align the IT organization more closely with the business.
• Develop an emerging technology strategy and blueprint
• Establish organizational norms of evaluating emerging technologies in a rapid, nimble, and iterative manner
• Build strategic partnerships with organisations and suppliers to optimise access to new and emerging technology.
• Manage the implementation of business systems and IT controls to measure performance, manage risk and ensures that IT and Business are aligned correctly.
• Keep up to date with trends in the regulatory environment thoroughly and advises others on actions to support that environment.
• Take responsibility for review of management processes (and decisions) to ensure that they are compliant with the IT organization's strategy for corporate information governance
• Manage the implementation of business systems and IT controls to measure performance, manages risk and ensures that IT and Business are aligned correctly.
• Champion in the development of a Disaster Recovery Plan.
• Ensure periodic back-up of company databases.
• Advise on issues such as maintenance of hardware assets, licensing of software, and legal obligations such as compliance with Government data protection standards.
• Keep abreast of developments and trends and proactively ensure the adoption of new and emerging technologies.

• Strong IT project planning and management and implementation skills.
• Sound knowledge of latest technology trends and developments
• Experience with network infrastructure, operations and application management
• Working knowledge of enterprise architecture design and management, IT application and infrastructure management
• In depth understanding of diverse technology systems and networks
• Ability to translate business needs into technology requirements
• Knowledge of ERP solutions
• Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills
• Good organizational and time-management skills

Education and Work Experiences

• First Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or any relevant field
• Minimum of 8-10years years relevant experience with at least five (5) in a management role in an IT function.
• Advanced problem solving and analytical skills with proven ability to use data effectively to identify and resolve issues.
• Professional or post graduate qualification in Information Technology or relevant IT certifications.
