Role Overview
We are seeking a seasoned NPDP Instructor to lead our Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) certification program. This role is central to developing the next generation of innovation leaders by delivering a curriculum that spans the entire product lifecycle, from initial strategy to market launch.
The ideal candidate will combine deep theoretical knowledge of the PDMA Body of Knowledge (BoK) with practical, hands-on experience in R&D or Product Management.
Key Responsibilities

  • Course Development and Curriculum Design
  • Design and maintain a comprehensive NPDP preparatory program aligned with the seven key knowledge areas of the PDMA BoK: Strategy, Portfolio Management, New Products Process, Culture/Organization/Teams, Tools/Metrics, Market Research, and Lifecycle Management.
  • Integrate practical case studies and industry-standard tools for product strategy, portfolio balancing, and voice-of-the-customer (VoC) research.
  • Exam Preparation and Strategy
  • Develop and update practice examinations that mirror the NPDP structure (approximately 200 questions over a 3.5-hour duration).
  • Provide candidates with targeted study plans, memorization aids for frameworks, and high-level exam-taking strategies.
  • Professional Coaching and Mentorship
  • Mentor participants on the PDMA eligibility process, specifically assisting in the formal documentation of their required two years of professional NPD experience.
  • Provide career guidance for those looking to transition into senior innovation or product leadership roles.
  • Continuous Learning and Compliance
  • Monitor and incorporate revisions to the PDMA BoK to ensure course material remains current.
  • Proactively maintain personal NPDP certification through ongoing professional development and recertification cycles.

Required Qualifications
Certification

  • Must hold an active NPDP certification from the Product Development and Management Association (PDMA).

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of direct experience leading or contributing to cross-functional new product development projects.

Training Expertise

  • Proven track record of teaching complex product development concepts and frameworks to professional audiences.
  • Deep familiarity with the PDMA Body of Knowledge and the specific nuances of the NPDP exam structure.

Preferred Qualifications (A Plus)

  • Extensive background in Product Management, Innovation Consulting, or R&D Leadership.
  • Experience with NPD methodologies such as Stage-Gate, Agile for hardware, or Design Thinking.
