Marine Litre Ghana is a bold new initiative aimed at tackling marine litter at its root. Combining community action with tech innovation, the project intercepts plastic waste from rivers, engages local youth in tracking and upcycling efforts, and generates real-time data to inform national decision-making.
We are building a decentralized, community-powered solution to Ghana’s marine litter crisis, starting from the Volta estuary in Ada.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking individuals, researchers, innovators, NGOs, and local change agents with expertise and a strong track record in one or more of the following areas:
Marine litter interception (e.g., booms, traps, floating barriers)
Plastic waste auditing and classification (coastal or riverine)
Community-based recycling or upcycling innovations
Circular economy initiatives focused on plastic recovery
Citizen science or youth engagement on coastal pollution
Marine and freshwater ecology related to pollution impact
Data tools for environmental mapping or dashboards
Roles & Expectations
Selected partners will collaborate with the LITTRAK GHANA team to:
Co-develop and/or improve floating plastic waste interception methods for key rivers (Volta, Densu, Chemu)
Share technical guidance, lessons learned, or toolkits on marine litter recovery
Lead or contribute to training programs for youth and fisherfolk
Support data validation and integration into the national marine litter dashboard
Offer advisory input into product design for recovered plastic (e.g., school furniture, tiles)
Participate in school and community outreach activities when possible
