Job Description/Requirements
The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology hereby invites applications from suitably qualified persons for the position of University Librarian of the KNUST library System. The appointment will take effect from 1ST NOVEMBER, 2025.
THE POSITION
The University Librarian is the professional and administrative Head of the KNUST Library system, comprising of the main Prempeh II Library, The KNUST Library Mall, as well as College and Faculty Libraries. The position of University Librarian is an academic position, and the Librarian is responsible to the Vice Chancellor. The University Librarian shall:
• provide professional and administrative leadership for the KNUST Library;
• be responsible for the management of all KNUST libraries and learning support services;
• provide academic and scholarly resources in support of teaching, learning and research work, and in accordance with policies of the University Library Committee;
• maintain a good learning environment conducive for teaching, learning, research and entrepreneurial activities;
• nurture professional linkages with organisations and agencies in the field of library and information science and education.
Qualification Required & Experience
The Applicant must:
• possess a research degree (MPhil/PhD) in Librarianship, Information Studies, Information Science and Technology, Library and Information Management or in any other relevant disciplines.
• be at least a Deputy Librarian in a university or analogous institution of higher education.
• possess practical knowledge and experience in all aspects of University Library work and pedagogical knowledge in education
• be conversant with Library ICT applications and learning technologies
• be a member of a relevant professional body
THE PERSON
The Person must:
• be dynamic, self-motivated and professionally competent with proven abilities
• be a team player with interpersonal and communication skills and the capacity to motivate and direct staff
• have a high sense of initiative and managerial skills and capable of exercising sound judgement
• have evidence of research publications in peer reviewed and high impact journals;
• have strong linkages with local and international educational agencies
• have proven ability of grantsmanship and library budget management for strategic activities
• understand current trends in library development and Open-Source initiatives
The eligible candidate should be able to complete a term of THREE (3) years in Office before his/her Sixtieth (60th) Birthday.
