The Wilder Institute Ghana team is seeking a fixed term, full time Program Transport and Logistics Coordinator who will provide key transport and logistics support to both Wechiau Community Hippo Sanctuary (WCHS) and the Avu Lagoon Community Protected Area (ALCPA). This roll supports the overarching transport and logistical needs of the Wilder Institute Ghana. Reporting to the Conservation Operations Manager, this Program Transport and Logistics Coordinator plays a central part in coordinating transport and logistics to ensure project activities are conducted efficiently and effectively. The Program Transport and Logistics Officer will work closely with Program Managers, other staff and project partners at both WCHS and ALCPA to support project activities.

Job descriptions & requirements

What you will do:

Procurement and Resource Management
  • Identifying opportunities, facilitate the distribution and tracking of equipment and resources shared among project sites to ensure maximum utility. 
  • Purchase equipment and supplies for both WCHS and ALCPA, and coordinate delivery of needed items. 
  • Support the Operations Manager with deliverable-based contracts for needed services. 
  • Follow provided procurement policies and ensure all other program staff comply with these policies. 

Operational Logistics and Infrastructure Support
  • Serve as in country Driver with regular visits to WCHS and ALCPA 
  • Manage and streamline logistics across Accra head office, WCHS and ALCPA 
  • Assist with any other responsibilities as assigned by the line manager 

Maintenance, Risk Mitigation and Reporting
  • Proactively identify local challenges or operational risks, with regular communication to the Program Manager(s) to ensure timely resolution 
  • Develop and implement a maintenance plan for all field equipment, tools, and vehicles across project sites (Accra Office, WCHS, and ALCPA)
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

What you will bring:
  • A Higher National Degree (HND) in Logistics is required.
  • A good Drivers Certificate from a recognized institution is required.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience with coordinating logistics for national projects (or international) 
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant work experience as a Driver  
  • Strong project coordination skills.   
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.  
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective partnerships with local communities, NGOs, government agencies, and other stakeholders.   
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize among multiple tasks and manage time efficiently, able to meet deadlines  
  • Must have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and be able to work well as part of a team  
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse stakeholders.   
  • Cultural awareness and sensitivity to support work with partners
  • Proficient on office word, excel and PowerPoint 
  • Experience working in the conservation or non-profit sector is an asset

Working Conditions:
  • Based on a 40hr work week with a flexible schedule to accommodate working across multiple time zones (Ghana and Canada) as needed
  • Extensive field work in and out of Accra 
  • Time spent at project locations may include field work/conditions that may involve hazards such as dangerous animals, insects, sunburn, working with field equipment such as trucks or ATVs, heavy lifting of field equipment, exposure to wildlife diseases, and working in rural areas and/or remote communities. Field conditions might also involve working long, irregular hours in inclement weather. 
  • Travel or reside in field locations or project communities as necessary. 
  • Driving on highways, dirt roads, and occasional air travel. 
  • Travel between project sites and head office as necessary

Other Information:The Wilder Institute Ghana may require outdoor work and staff must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute’s Ghana follows the advice of local weather authorities when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
