Job summary

The Driver-Mechanic will be responsible for the safe operation, routine maintenance, and basic repair of the organisation’s vehicles. The successful applicant will combine strong driving skills with sound mechanical knowledge to ensure that all assigned vehicles are safe, roadworthy, reliable, and properly maintained.

Job descriptions & requirements

Responsibilities
  • Safely driving company vehicles for authorised official assignments.
  • Ensuring the safe transportation of staff, clients, equipment, and other authorised persons or materials.
  • Carrying out routine inspections of assigned vehicles before and after use.
  • Performing basic and intermediate mechanical repairs and maintenance on company vehicles.
  • Diagnosing mechanical faults and recommending appropriate repairs.
  • Carrying out routine servicing, including checking engine oil, coolant, brakes, tyres, batteries, belts, and other essential vehicle components.
  • Promptly reporting major mechanical faults that require specialised attention.
  • Ensuring that vehicles are properly maintained, clean, roadworthy, and available for use.
  • Maintaining appropriate records of vehicle servicing, repairs, mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance.
  • Ensuring compliance with road traffic regulations and the organisation's vehicle-use procedures.

Requirements & Skills
  • Possess a valid Ghanaian driver's licence appropriate for the category of vehicles to be driven. Have a minimum of three (3) years of practical driving experience.
  • Be a competent and experienced mechanic with sound knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance and repairs. Possess a relevant technical, vocational, apprenticeship, NVTI/CTVET or equivalent qualification in Motor Vehicle Mechanics/Automotive Engineering.
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify, diagnose, and repair common vehicle faults. Have a good understanding of preventive vehicle maintenance. Have a good knowledge of road safety regulations and traffic rules.
  • Be responsible, disciplined, trustworthy, punctual, and reliable. Be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Be physically fit and willing to work flexible hours when required.
