Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced, and legally astute Human Resources supervisor to lead and manage HR functions in Ghana. This role is crucial in attracting, developing, and retaining top talent, fostering a positive employee relations environment, and ensuring all HR practices comply with Ghanaian labor laws and our company's global standards. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on generalist with a strong focus on recruitment, employee relations, and training & development.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Recruitment & Onboarding:
Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract qualified candidates in the Ghanaian market.
Manage the end-to-end recruitment process, including job advertising, candidate sourcing, screening, interviewing, and selection.
Negotiate job offers and prepare employment contracts in compliance with the Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
Oversee robust onboarding and induction programs for new hires to ensure smooth integration into the company culture and operations.
Ensure all recruitment practices comply with the Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651) and other relevant regulations regarding non-discrimination and fair employment practices.
2. Employee Relations & Compliance:
Serve as the primary point of contact for all employee relations matters, including grievances, disciplinary issues, performance management, and conflict resolution.
Advise management and employees on company policies, procedures, and Ghanaian labor law to ensure fair and consistent application.
Manage disciplinary and grievance procedures in strict adherence to the Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), ensuring due process and fairness.
Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting employee engagement and well-being.
Stay updated on changes in Ghanaian labor legislation (e.g., Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715), Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), etc.) and advise on necessary policy and procedural adjustments.
Ensure strict adherence to all provisions of the Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), including but not limited to employment contracts, working hours, leave entitlements (annual, sick, maternity), termination procedures, and occupational health and safety standards.
Liaise with external legal counsel or relevant government bodies (e.g., National Labour Commission) as required.
3. Training & Development:
Conduct training needs analyses to identify skill gaps and development opportunities for employees and management.
Design, develop, and deliver or facilitate effective training programs (e.g., soft skills, compliance, leadership development) tailored to the Ghanaian context.
Coordinate with external training providers when necessary.
Evaluate the effectiveness of training initiatives and track employee development progress.
Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the organization.
4. HR Policy & Administration:
Develop, implement, and review HR policies and procedures that align with both global company standards and Ghanaian legal requirements.
Manage HR record-keeping and data administration, ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
Administer compensation and benefits programs, ensuring market competitiveness and legal compliance (e.g., Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) contributions).
Oversee the performance management process, ensuring regular feedback and development discussions.
Prepare HR reports and analytics to support management decision-making.
5. Strategic HR & Advisory:
Provide strategic HR advice and support to the Country Manager and department heads on all people-related matters.
Contribute to the development and implementation of the company's overall HR strategy in Ghana.
Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Law, Psychology, or a related field.
A Master's degree or professional HR certification (e.g., CIPD, SHRM-SCP/CP, IHRMP Ghana) is highly desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a lead role.
Proven experience managing recruitment, employee relations, and training & development functions independently.
Demonstrable experience working within the Ghanaian legal framework, particularly with the Ghana Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651).
Experience working with multinational companies or in a similar industry [mention your industry if relevant, e.g., 'mining,' 'telecoms,' 'manufacturing'] is a significant advantage.
Knowledge & Skills:
In-depth knowledge of Ghanaian labor laws and employment regulations (e.g., Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843), Persons with Disability Act, 2006 (Act 715), SSNIT regulations) is essential.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build rapport at all levels.
Strong leadership, coaching, and conflict resolution abilities.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
Proficiency in HR Information Systems (HRIS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is required.
Ability to speak local Ghanaian languages (e.g., Twi, Ga, Ewe) is an advantage but not mandatory.
