Dispensing Technician
Job summary
The Dispensing Technician is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in the safe, accurate, and efficient dispensing of medications. The role includes processing prescriptions, preparing medications for dispensing, managing inventory, maintaining pharmacy records, and providing excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with pharmacy regulations and professional standards.
Job descriptions & requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and review prescriptions for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist the pharmacist in preparing and dispensing prescription medications.
- Accurately label, count, measure, package, and prepare medications.
- Maintain accurate patient and prescription records.
- Process insurance claims and payment transactions where applicable.
- Monitor stock levels, receive stock, and remove expired products.
- Maintain proper medicine storage conditions.
- Provide professional customer service and refer clinical queries to the pharmacist.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with pharmacy regulations.
- Assist with audits, inspections, and health and safety requirements.
Qualifications:
- Diploma, HND, or Certificate in Dispensing Technology, Pharmacy Technology, or a related health science field. Registration with the appropriate regulatory body where applicable.
Experience:
- 1–3 years of experience in a retail, hospital, or community pharmacy.
Skills:
- Knowledge of dispensing procedures, attention to detail, communication, customer service, organization, computer literacy, and integrity.
