JOB PURPOSE
The General Manager will provide strategic leadership and full operational oversight of the mine site, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable operations across all functions from exploration and extraction through processing, logistics, and site administration. The role is accountable for translating corporate strategy into site level execution, driving production targets, cost control, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder relations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic & Operational Leadership • Direct overall mine operations, including production, processing, engineering, maintenance, geology, and logistics, to meet output, quality, and cost targets. • Develop and execute annual business plans, production budgets, and long-term operational strategies aligned with corporate objectives. • Monitor key performance indicators (production volumes, cost per ton, equipment utilization, recovery rates) and drive corrective action where needed. • Oversee mine planning and ensure alignment between short-term production schedules and long-term resource development plans. Safety, Health, Environment & Compliance • Champion a strong safety culture, ensuring full compliance with occupational health and safety regulations and industry best practices. • Ensure operations meet all environmental, regulatory, and licensing requirements set by national mining authorities (e.g., Minerals Commission, EPA). • Lead incident investigation processes and implement preventive measures to minimize workplace risks. Financial & Resource Management • Manage site operating and capital budgets, ensuring cost discipline and optimal resource allocation. • Review financial performance regularly with the finance team and implement measures to improve margins and reduce waste. • Approve major procurement, contractor, and capital expenditure decisions within delegated authority. People Leadership • Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary management team, fostering accountability and high performance. • Oversee workforce planning, talent development, and succession planning across the site. • Manage labor relations, including engagement with unions, contractors, and community representatives. Stakeholder & Community Relations • Serve as the primary site representative to government agencies, regulatory bodies, host communities, and traditional authorities. • Maintain strong community relations and oversee corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. • Represent the company in negotiations, audits, and inspections conducted by external stakeholders. Governance & Reporting • Provide regular operational, financial, and safety performance reports to the CEO and Board. • Ensure adherence to corporate governance policies, internal controls, and risk management frameworks.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Metallurgy, or a related field; a Master's degree or MBA is an advantage. • Minimum of 10–15 years' experience in mining operations, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership or general management role. • Proven track record of managing large-scale mining operations, including production, safety, and financial performance. • Strong knowledge of Ghanaian mining regulations and permitting processes. • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder management, including government, community, and labor relations. • Excellent leadership, strategic planning, and decision-making skills.
