Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is a public-benefit federal enterprise working in more than 100 countries worldwide. Our activities in Ghana cover three priority areas: Climate and Energy, Just Transition; Sustainable Economic Development, Training and Employment; and Peaceful and Inclusive Societies, which focuses on good governance.
Project Brief
The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH has been active in Ghana in the context of international development cooperation for more than 30 years. GIZ has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to implement the Special Initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition” in Ghana. Due to the constant growth of Africa’s population (population doubles to 2.5 billion people by 2050), the continent needs 20 million new jobs annually. This goal is only achievable in cooperation with the private sector.
Scope Of Role
The Technical Advisor manages the implementation of projects in the field of decent work, in close collaboration with the component and projects teams, especially the decent work technical lead and the head of component.
Tasks

  • Responsible for working closely with the Decent Work portfolio Technical Lead to oversee, coordinate, and evolve all aspects related to decent work-related advisory services to be extended by the programme.
  • Responsible for identifying new project opportunities in the area of decent job creation.
  • Responsible for the quality assurance of ongoing projects per GIZ’s processes and regulations within the field of decent work.
  • Responsible for working with German and European companies in Ghana other employee groups to ensure the successful

implementation of the Special Initiative.

  • Responsible for the knowledge exchange with Germany and European countries focusing on decent work and workers councils.
  • Prepares reports and presentation documents, including monitoring & evaluation, success stories and best practice examples.
  • Prepares appropriate input for various programme reports including annual reports and contributes to the other reports that may be required.
  • Coordinate project activities/interventions at local level in consultation with the manager and in cooperation with the partners regarding implementation.
  • Performs other tasks at the request of management related to the implementation of the project’s objective.

Qualification Required & Experience

  • University degree in (Master level preferred) Economics, Politics or similar.
  • At least 3 years’ professional experience with progressing responsibility in a comparable position, professional experience in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of projects.
  • Very good working knowledge of Microsoft 365 Suite applications
  • Knowledge of labour relations in Germany/Europe
  • Knowledge of the cooperation with trade unions in Europe/Germany
  • Diligent, goal oriented, proactive, open minded and innovative, team player and ability to perform tasks without supervision.
  • Individual good at spotting opportunities, take ownership and can handle cases from start to finish. You have good analytical skills, but you can also work fast and efficiently under pressure.
  • Strong command of written and spoken English; knowledge of German is an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills, work experience in an intercultural environment is an asset
  • Effective communication skills, humour, ability to engage stakeholders and facilitate networking
