Job summary
The Recovery/Credit Officer will be responsible for managing the credit portfolio, assessing and processing loan applications, monitoring repayments, managing delinquent accounts, and ensuring effective loan recovery while maintaining compliance with the organization’s credit policies and regulatory requirements.
Job descriptions & requirements
- Market and promote the company’s credit products to prospective customers.
- Assess and appraise loan applications, including credit bureau checks, customer verification, and field visits.
- Conduct KYC checks and validate customer and supporting documents.
- Manage and monitor the assigned loan portfolio to ensure timely repayments.
- Maintain complete and accurate credit files, including loan applications, agreements, approval letters, securities, and supporting documents.
- Monitor delinquent accounts and follow up promptly on outstanding repayments.
- Conduct field visits to defaulting customers and guarantors to facilitate loan recovery.
- Directly collect recovered loan payments and ensure proper reconciliation and documentation.
- Prepare and serve notices of default and demand notices to delinquent customers.
- Negotiate and reschedule defaulted loan repayments where appropriate.
- Liaise with Credit and Recovery Officers to identify credit risks and implement suitable mitigation strategies.
- Analyze delinquent accounts and recommend appropriate recovery actions for high-risk accounts.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly credit and recovery performance reports for management.
- Monitor repayment records and reconcile differences between field records and system records.
- Ensure strict adherence to the organization’s loan cycle, credit policies, data protection, and confidentiality requirements.
- Stay informed about developments and best practices in credit management and loan recovery.
- Perform any other duties assigned by management.
- HND/Degree in Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
- Previous experience in credit, microfinance, banking, loan recovery, or financial services is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, communication, and customer relationship skills.
- Ability to conduct field visits and work effectively with customers and guarantors.
- Good knowledge of credit assessment, loan monitoring, and recovery processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant financial/credit management systems.
