Job summary

To control flow of work to meet production targets and/or customer deadlines; from checking and managing the product specification, making adjustments and keeping the team informed, ensuring production is carried out as per standard operating procedures. Overseeing the work of the technical operators, supervisors and taking responsibility of the finished products by monitoring and maintaining quality.

Responsibilities:

The Production Manager shall


  • Submit daily production reports to Management
  • To motivate and give direction to Production team, develop and maintain quality-based production whilst monitoring individual, team and machine performance.
  • Supervise all aspects of Maize grits, CSB, Maize meal and flour production and provide additional resource whenever necessary.
  • To act as custodian of plant, process and personnel safety; ensuring that safety guidelines on the plant are adhered to, personnel carry out safe work practices, and conducting safety audits on personnel and equipment, identifying non-conformances and taking proactive measures to mitigate their impact.
  • To develop and implement planned/ preventive maintenance schedules and take a leadership role in team problem solving as well as ensuring good factory housekeeping at all times.
  • To attend Management meetings as and when necessary.
  •  Liaise with sales team to develop a production plan to meet demand.
  • Monitor daily production of all the products and ensure that it is in consonance with output targets and quality standards
  • Monitor major materials usage in line with the orders to ensure that there are no stock-outs to disrupt production
  • Receive materials from raw material warehouse and reconcile same every month and end of each shift
  • Draw up the production budget and ensure that expenditures are within approved limits.
  • Monitor product transfer from production to finished goods warehouse and report to Accounts Department.
  • Anticipate problems and challenges with respect to the production process and work to mitigate them.
  • Plan and implement training and development programs for production staff.
  • Ensure high level of safe work methods to avoid damages to equipment and machinery, accident prevention and hazard identification and control within the Plant.
  • Have a fiducial relationship with the warehouse, maintenance and quality managers to ensure smooth run.

 

General Responsibilities 

  • The Employee shall ensure he/she complies with the statutory provisions of Health, Safety and Environment Legislation and complies with PFL’s Policies and Procedures including Factory and Health and Safety policies, and any modifications to any policy that may be introduced from time to time
  • To work in a customer-related way in accordance with adopted procedures and best practice
  •  To work co-operatively with colleagues and external stakeholders to promote PFL’s overall business objectives
  •   To ensure that confidentiality is respected and maintained at all times
  •  To perform any other duty as directed by line management
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time, as may be deemed necessary by superior and other line managers.


Qualifications 

  • MSc. / BSc. Mechanical Engineering
  • 5 years relevant experience in a related field

 

Technical Competencies

  • Ability to diagnose and repair malfunctioning plant equipment, boiler, air compressors, extruder, roller and hammer mills, pneumatic systems, etc.
  • Ability to interpret down times captured and make informed decisions
  • Strong Microsoft excel and power point skills

 

Personality Competencies

  • Ability to relate effectively to people at all levels
  • Must be able to develop subordinates
  • Ability to speak and write good English
  • Ability to set target and meet deadlines
  • Strong data management skill

 

Managerial Competencies


  • Ability to lead and manage people for success by coordinating with the engineering team on site.
  • Good leadership skills
  • People management skills
