Job summary
This is a commercially critical role. You will own the company’s relationships with every supplier, every purchase order, and every product that enters the building. You will be responsible for ensuring availability of stock, reducing procurement costs, improving supplier performance, and using data to make every purchasing decision. You will also support the business’s ambition to improve its Cost of Goods performance significantly.
Job descriptions & requirements
Your key responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain a weekly and monthly procurement plan aligned to sales targets, stock levels, warehouse capacity, and working capital.
- Anticipate demand for fast-moving products based on sales data — never ordering reactively after a stockout has already occurred.
- Own all supplier relationships — negotiating pricing, credit terms, delivery timelines, volume rebates, promotional support, and the elimination of forced bundle purchasing.
- Monitor supplier performance monthly: on-time delivery, order accuracy, product quality, and responsiveness.
- Implement and enforce FIFO and FEFO disciplines, particularly for near-expiry and beverage products.
- Drive down dead stock — co-ordinating with the Sales team on movement strategies for slow-moving products.
- Produce a monthly procurement cost analysis for the CFO and present weekly stock and procurement updates at the senior team meeting.
What You Will Bring
Essential:
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of procurement, purchasing, or supply chain management experience in an FMCG, distribution, retail, or manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience conducting commercial negotiations with suppliers — pricing, credit terms, volume rebates, and contract terms. Not just placing orders.
- Strong understanding of inventory management, stock control, FIFO/FEFO, and procurement cost structures.
- Comfortable working with data — you make purchasing decisions from numbers, not from instinct.
- Ghanaian market experience — you understand FMCG supplier dynamics, trade channel pressures, and the commercial realities of procurement in Ghana.
- Strong communication and cross-functional working skills — you collaborate as effectively with the warehouse team as with the CFO.
Advantageous:
- Experience using an ERP system for procurement — Odoo, SAP, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of supplier contract management and formal procurement agreement documentation.
- CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply) qualification or equivalent.
- Experience managing promotional procurement, supplier-funded activations, or volume rebate arrangements.
- Exposure to multi-site or national procurement operations.
Personal qualities we are looking for:
- Commercially sharp — you understand that procurement is a revenue function, not an administrative one.
- A negotiator — you can sit across from a supplier’s sales representative and hold your ground.
- Data-driven — you arrive at every meeting with numbers, not impressions.
- Proactive — you prevent stockouts before they happen, not after.
- A builder — you design systems that work when you are not in the room.
