Poultry Farm Turnaround Manager 


Location: Koforidua, Accra, Ghana

Reporting to: Group CEO / Board of Directors

Engagement: Executive Management Role (Turnaround Mandate)


Role Purpose

AkroFarms is entering a decisive growth and recovery phase. We are seeking a Turnaround Manager to lead the operational, financial, and commercial transformation of AkroFarms into a scaled, bankable, and investor-ready integrated poultry enterprise.

The successful candidate will take full executive responsibility for stabilising operations, restoring profitability, raising growth capital, and scaling the farm from its current operating base toward its 480,000-bird expansion vision, while embedding strong governance, systems, and performance discipline.


This is a hands-on leadership role, combining deep poultry operations expertise with fundraising, investor engagement, and execution excellence.

Scope of Operations & Assets


The Turnaround Manager will assume leadership over the following existing and developing infrastructure:


Existing Farm Infrastructure (32 acres, fully serviced & fenced)

  • 2 Ă— 40,000-bird layer houses (expandable to 480,000 birds)
  • 1 Ă— 40,000-bird brooder house
  • 1 Ă— 40,000-bird hatchery
  • Feed processing unit & warehouse
  • 400 KVA power plant
  • Office building
  • Vehicle fleet including trailers, cold van, tractor, trucks, and tankers
  • Road, water, and electricity infrastructure


Structures Under Development

  • 1,500 MT maize/soy silo base
  • 15-unit greenhouse complex
  • 6,000-bird breeder house


Key Responsibilities

1. Turnaround & Operational Leadership

  • Lead a full diagnostic review of AkroFarms’ operations, costs, productivity, biosecurity, and management systems.
  • Stabilise production across layers, hatchery, brooding, and feed operations.
  • Drive measurable improvements in:
  • Bird performance & mortality
  • Feed conversion ratios (FCR)
  • Cost per egg / chick
  • Biosecurity and disease management
  • Implement standard operating procedures (SOPs), production dashboards, and weekly performance reviews.
  • Prepare the farm for scale-readiness up to 480,000 birds.


2. Financial Recovery & Profitability

  • Restore cashflow discipline and working capital control.
  • Develop and execute a profitability improvement plan covering:
  • Feed sourcing and formulation
  • Energy and utilities optimisation
  • Labour productivity
  • Input procurement and supplier renegotiation
  • Produce credible operating budgets, cashflow forecasts, and unit economics for board and investor review.


3. Fundraising & Investor Management

  • Lead capital raise efforts (equity, debt, blended finance, grants, DFIs).
  • Prepare investment materials:
  • Investor pitch decks
  • Financial models
  • Expansion capex plans
  • Act as primary management interface with:
  • Existing investors
  • Prospective investors and lenders
  • Development partners and strategic partners
  • Support due diligence processes and site visits with confidence and clarity.


4. Expansion & Project Execution

  • Oversee execution of infrastructure under development, including:
  • 1,500 MT silo system
  • Greenhouse rollout
  • Breeder house construction and commissioning
  • Coordinate contractors, suppliers, and technical advisors.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to specification.


5. Team Leadership & Governance

  • Build, motivate, and lead a high-performance farm management team.
  • Clarify roles, accountability, and performance KPIs.
  • Establish a culture of ownership, discipline, safety, and transparency.
  • Report regularly to the CEO and Board with clear metrics, risks, and recommendations.


Required Experience & Profile


Essential

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in commercial poultry operations, with proven turnaround or scale-up leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience managing:
  • Layer operations
  • Hatchery and brooding systems
  • Feed processing and storage
  • Fundraising and investor engagement experience in agribusiness or food systems.
  • Track record of restoring distressed or underperforming agribusiness assets.
  • Strong financial literacy: budgets, cashflow, unit economics, and ROI analysis.


Highly Desirable

  • Experience scaling poultry operations beyond 100,000 birds.
  • Exposure to DFIs, impact investors, or agribusiness private equity.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy, silos, or integrated farm systems.
  • Experience operating in West Africa or comparable emerging markets.

  • Hands-on leader who can move seamlessly between strategy and the farm floor.

Success Metrics (12–Months)

  • Stabilised operations with improved bird performance and reduced losses.
  • Positive operating cashflow and improved margins.
  • Successful capital raise to support expansion.
  • Commissioning of key infrastructure projects.
  • Clear roadmap toward 480,000-bird scale with investor confidence.
