Role Description The Clinical Oncology Specialist will provide comprehensive, evidence-based care to individuals with cancer in an on-site, full-time role located in the Greater Accra Region, Ghana. Responsibilities include assessing and diagnosing oncology cases, developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, and coordinating multidisciplinary care with physicians, pharmacists, nurses, and other allied health professionals. The specialist will monitor treatment responses, manage side effects, adjust therapies as needed, and provide patient and family education on disease, treatment options, and supportive care. Day-to-day tasks will also involve collaborating in tumor boards, contributing to clinical protocols and guidelines, and ensuring adherence to ethical, safety, and regulatory standards in oncology care. In addition, the role includes participation in clinical research, data collection, quality improvement initiatives, and the training and mentoring of students or junior staff within the university-affiliated health system.
Qualifications
- Strong clinical expertise in Oncology and Cancer care, including assessment, staging, treatment planning, and follow-up.
- Professional background in Medicine and/or Pharmacy with demonstrated experience in managing chemotherapy, targeted therapies, and supportive medications.
- Capability to engage in clinical and applied Research related to oncology, including data collection, analysis, and participation in publications or presentations.
- Recognized medical or pharmacy degree with relevant specialization in oncology (e.g., Clinical Oncology, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, or Oncology Pharmacy), and valid professional registration in the country of practice.
- Strong communication, counseling, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a teaching and research-intensive environment.
- Experience in low- or middle-resource healthcare settings, familiarity with national and international oncology guidelines, and commitment to continuous professional development.
