About The Role
The Nibs/Cake Packaging Operator is responsible for operating the cake and nibs bagging machines, conducting quality tests and inspections during and after the bagging process, and ensuring the proper labelling, handling, and transfer of filled bags to storage. The Nibs/Cake Packaging Operator will be based in Tema and report to the Shift Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities

  • Operates the cake and nibs bagging machines to fill the nibs or cake into bags at the end the pressing and nibs making processes.
  • Conduct in-line quality test (CCP) during the filling of the bags according to the critical control procedures using the right test pieces.
  • Collect in-process quality samples per the defined sampling protocol, procedure, and label appropriately.
  • Inspect and clean the finished product to ensure excellent quality – free of dirt or fines, defects on the bag and right weight.
  • Drive the forklift to transfer the packed product to the temporal holding area in the warehouse.
  • Inspect, clean, and disinfect the packaging equipment, tools and workstation before the start of the shift.
  • Cleaning the inner and outer parts of the equipment during planned preventive maintenance or during or after any technical or operational intervention on the equipment.
  • Ensuring high GMP and hygiene standards are maintained at the warehouse and packaging stations during the shift.
  • Printing of SAP labels, pasting of the labels and scanning of pallets after the bagging.
  • Verification of finished-product weight to check over/underweight and report to the Shift Supervisor for the necessary corrections.
  • Ensure all product defects are isolated, weighed daily, properly labelled and sent to the rework area.
  • Ensure all leftover products have labels to identify them.
  • Ensure to wear the appropriate PPEs and observe all safety regulations.
  • Promptly identify and report any equipment defects or abnormalities to the Shift Supervisor for immediate attention.
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned such as general cleaning of plant equipment and supporting maintenance activities.
  • Record quality sample analysis results in MES using the Quality Control Application.
  • Validate the equipment downtimes and process observations in MES.
  • Record the bag weight and all traceability records using the production form PD - FM - 08 (online)
  • Liaise with the press operator and control room operator for the smooth transfer of cake and nibs to the hoppers to prevent transport line blockage.
  • Liaise with the logistics forklift operator to ensure the smooth transfer of finished products from the temporal storage locations to prevent congestion on the shopfloor.
  • Performs any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

About You

  • NVTI Grade I or II in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline with a minimum one (1) year post-qualification experience in a manufacturing, production or food processing environment.
  • Good understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hygiene Standards, HACCP, and Food Defense/Food Safety requirements.
  • Ability to perform in-process quality checks and Critical Control Point (CCP) monitoring.
  • Ability to perform cleaning, inspection, and sanitation activities on production equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate production records and process documentation
  • Experienced using SAP, MES, or other production management systems
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and consistently achieve production targets.
  • Must have a valid forklift license
