Applications for the sixth edition of The Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize are now open! For the first time, the Prize expands beyond Ghana to Senegal, in partnership with Institut Français du Sénégal.
While Ghana remains at the heart of the Prize, this expansion reflects a broader vision: to grow the Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize into a leading platform for female artists across Africa.
What's New this Year?
- Two winners will be selected: One Ghanaian artist One Senegalese artist
- Each winner receives a $5,000 cash prize.
- A landmark international residency exchange: The Ghanaian winner will spend 3 months in Senegal (1 month in Saint-Louis and 2 months in Dakar) The Senegalese winner will spend 3 months in Accra, Ghana.
This optional exchange goes beyond artistic practice — it is a space for dialogue, cultural discovery, and creative transformation. It is a meeting point between two countries, two cultures, and a new way of seeing. (The prize will cover flights, transportation of artworks, accommodation and materials)
How To Apply
- Artist Bio and Statement: A bio of up to 200 words telling us who you are, where you are from, where you live, where you have schooled (schooling does not have to be formal or directly related to art) and a concise story of your artistic journey.
- Portfolio: Up to 6 high resolution photos/videos/media links of your artworks including a full caption of the title, date, medium and measurements.
All documents should be saved in pdf format.

To be eligible for the Yaa Asantewaa Art Prize, you must be a Ghanaian or Senegalese woman, 18 years old or older, living in Ghana, Senegal or the diaspora. You must present a national ID card or passport to qualify.
