As part of our ongoing operations in Ghana, we are seeking a qualified and experienced SHIFT BOSS to join our underground operations team.
Role Summary: The Shift Boss leads mining crews, ensuring safe and productive daily operations by enforcing safety protocols, managing tasks, overseeing equipment, planning work, maintaining records, and acting as a key communication link between the crew and management, balancing strict regulatory compliance with achieving production targets in a demanding underground environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily tasks, resources (people, equipment, materials)
· Supervise and coordinate underground mining activities during assigned shifts work to meet production targets
· Enforce safety, health, and environmental standards at all times
· Ensure compliance with mine plans, procedures, and legal requirements
· Monitor productivity, manpower, and equipment utilization
· Identify, report, and rectify unsafe conditions and practices
· Complete accurate shift reports and conduct effective shift handovers
· Coordinate with engineering, safety, and maintenance teams.
· Conduct daily safety inspections and discuss safety with the team.
· Ensure crew members are trained and certified.
· Withdraw personnel in dangerous situations.
· Manage shift activities, including blasting and development/production.
· Act as the main liaison between the crew and higher management.
· Communicate performance, incidents, and challenges clearly.
· Maintain detailed shift logs, including attendance, production, and incidents.
Requirements:
- Valid Shift Boss Certificate of Competency MINCOM Ghana).
- Five to Seven (5-7) years’ working experience in an underground mine
· A Degree or higher Diploma in Mining Engineering or must have gone through training and obtained the requisite knowledge needed to practice as a shift boss in an underground mining environment.
· Proven experience in mining operations, ground control standards and safety systems
· Proven leadership, supervisory, communication and problem-solving skills.
· Calm under pressure and adaptable to unexpected issues.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
· Deep understanding of underground mining processes and regulations.
· Commitment to a strong safety culture ("Zero Harm").
· Current first Aid Certification.
