Job Summary

The role holder has operational responsibility of the power and passive infrastructure within the MTN Datacentre, switch centre and cell site domains. This role will have management responsibilities in the operations and planning of the network power and passive environment and will also have governance oversight over all 3rd parties providing network power and passive services to MTN. The role will also be responsible for preparing and managing all power and passive related investments and operating costs to ensure optimal service delivery.

Key Tasks:

Operations Management MTN Network Power and Infrastructure

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of power systems, cooling systems, energy distribution systems, and maintenance activities.
  • Implement strategies to optimize power efficiency and reliability while minimizing costs.
  • Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for power and cooling system operations.
  • Ensure that power capacity introduced into the network is in accordance with the allowable standards for customer excellence

  • Serve as the technical point of contact for MTN Group initiatives and engagements regarding power and passive infrastructure programs.


Project Implementation-Passive Infrastructure Renewal

  • Lead and manage power infrastructure projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Collaborate with managed service partners, procurement, and construction teams to ensure effective project execution.
  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.


Team Leadership

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and project managers, fostering a culture of high performance and accountability.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless collaboration and integration of power systems


Compliance and Safety

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, standards, and safety protocols in all power operations.
  • Conduct audits and inspections to identify and address compliance issues.
  • Promote a safety-first culture, providing training and resources to minimize incidents and ensure workplace safety practices.


Budgeting and Cost Control:

  • Develop and manage the budget for power operations, including forecasting expenses and tracking expenditures.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and implement measures to optimize resource utilization.


Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory bodies, contractors, and clients, to ensure smooth project delivery and adherence to compliance standards.
  • Prepare and present reports to senior management, providing updates on operational performance and project progress.


Continuous Improvement:

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives in power operations, incorporating the latest technologies and industry best


Education

  • Minimum of BSc Electrical /Electronic Engineering
  • MBA/ Postgraduate Degree in Energy Systems Engineering or a related field of study will be added advantage


Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in Data Center power operations, implementation, and project management, in a telecommunications sector with at least 5 years in a managerial role.
  • Strong understanding of Telecommunication power configuration, distribution systems, and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and mentor a multidisciplinary team.


Knowledge


  • Adequate knowledge in Data Center Electrical power substation systems, switchgear, protection and control
  • In depth knowledge in Network Operations & Network quality management.
  • Adequate Knowledge in application of technological advancements such as energy efficiency systems.
  • In-depth knowledge in electrical infrastructure & power systems (AC/DC).
  • In-depth knowledge to Power Feed Equipment that supports marine cabling technology.
  • In-depth knowledge UPS, Rectifier, inverters and electrical reticulation.
  • In-depth knowledge in cooling systems.
  • In-depth knowledge in Sustainability practices as pertains to passive systems

Knowledge of installation, operation and maintenance of HPAC systems

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
