Job Title: Real Estate Investment & Portfolio Manager
Reporting Line
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Africa Firm
Works closely with: Finance, Legal, Development Partners, External Advisors
Role Purpose
The Real Estate Investment & Portfolio Manager will be responsible for originating, structuring, managing, and optimising Africa Firm’s real estate assets and land bank into a scalable, high-performing real estate portfolio.
The role sits at the intersection of investment strategy, asset management, development oversight, and capital raising, with a clear mandate: protect capital, grow value, and build a disciplined real estate platform.
Key Responsibilities
1. Investment Strategy & Deal Origination
- Identify, evaluate, and recommend residential, mixed-use, and land-based real estate investment opportunities.
- Conduct market studies, feasibility analysis, and financial modelling (IRR, NPV, cash yields, cap rates).
- Structure acquisition and development deals, including joint ventures, SPVs, and co-investment structures.
- Lead negotiations with landowners, sellers, developers, financiers, and partners.
2. Portfolio & Asset Management
- Actively manage Africa Firm’s real estate portfolio to maximise income, capital appreciation, and risk-adjusted returns.
- Develop and implement asset-level business plans (rent optimisation, redevelopment, refinancing, exits).
- Oversee property managers, valuers, lawyers, surveyors, and facility managers.
- Monitor portfolio KPIs: occupancy, yield, NOI, operating costs, valuation growth.
3. Development & Project Oversight
- Oversee residential and mixed-use development projects from concept to completion.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, contractors, and planning authorities.
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and to investment specifications.
- Manage development risk, approvals, and compliance.
4. Capital Structuring & Investor Interface
- Support capital raising for real estate projects (equity, debt, blended finance).
- Prepare investment memoranda, pitch decks, and board papers.
- Engage with high-net-worth investors, family offices, banks, and DFIs.
- Track and report investor performance transparently and professionally.
5. Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Ensure all real estate investments comply with legal, regulatory, and internal governance standards.
- Work closely with Legal and Finance on contracts, leases, title diligence, and risk mitigation.
- Maintain robust documentation, reporting, and audit trails.
6. Strategic Growth & Platform Building
- Help design Africa Firm’s long-term real estate platform and investment thesis.
- Identify opportunities to scale into REIT-style structures, funds, or special purpose vehicles.
- Build systems, templates, and playbooks for repeatable real estate execution.

- Portfolio performance reports (quarterly & annual)
- Development and asset-level business plans
- Capital raising support materials
- Clear exit and value-realisation strategies
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Bachelor’s degree in Real Estate, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
- 5–12+ years experience in real estate investment, development, asset management, or private equity.
- Strong financial modelling and deal structuring capability.
- Proven experience managing income-producing and/or development assets.
Desirable
- Degree (MBA, MSc Real Estate, Finance, or related).
- Experience in African real estate markets.
- Exposure to institutional investors, DFIs, or structured finance.
- Professional certifications (RICS, CFA, PMP) are an advantage.
